About Mary
My name is Mary Harbin, and I am a licensed clinical social worker in the states of Mississippi and Alabama. I work with adults (18+) who are navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, and mood instability issues.
I specialize in CBT, EMDR, DBT, crisis intervention, trauma, and grief therapy techniques. My approach is collaborative and client-centered, blending evidence-based methods with a warm, nonjudgmental space to help you build skills, regain balance, and move toward your goals.
My goal is to provide a space where you feel genuinely seen and energized. You have been resilient for so long on your own; let’s shift the focus from simply ‘getting by’ to creating a life that feels hopeful and truly yours. I’d love to hear your story.

"For over 25 years, I have had the privilege of walking alongside adults as they navigate the most challenging chapters of their lives, with my approach deeply rooted in the belief that no one is defined by their diagnosis. "

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
Growing up, I was shaped by a simple but powerful lesson: when things get hard, "look for the helpers" (thank you, Mr. Rogers). That idea stayed with me and led me to become one. I became a counselor because I believe every person carries strengths within them, sometimes they just need someone in their corner to help them see it. My role is to help you reconnect with the resilience that was always there.
What types of clients do you work best with?
I work best with people who are ready to explore - those who sense that something needs to shift and are open to discovering what's possible.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
Healing is not a straight line. There are no quick fixes. I offer presence, a source of support and knowledge, as you navigate your own unique path toward growth and healing.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
Your first session is a chance to start building our therapeutic alliance. Sessions are conducted in a warm, nonjudgmental space, with attention to safety, confidentiality, and cultural sensitivity. We’ll review what brings you in, discuss your history and current concerns, and your goals for therapy. I’ll explain the approach I use (e.g., CBT, EMDR, mindfulness) and how we’ll measure progress together.
What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?
At the heart of this work, I value treating others with warmth and kindness. I work from the understanding that with the right support, challenges can become doorways to deeper selfunderstanding and change. I offer an open mind and genuine curiosity to create a space where you can explore your emotions without judgement.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
I draw on evidence-based practice techniques and offer a compassionate, collaborate approach to therapy. You are the expert on your own life, and my role is to walk alongside you as you find your way forward.
