I’m Lisa Thompson, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with a passion for helping adolescents and adults navigate life’s challenges and find meaningful healing. I specialize in trauma and PTSD, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, suicidal ideation, and complex emotional concerns. I work with individuals who may feel overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and grounded in evidence-based practices, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), EMDR, and strengths-based interventions. I believe therapy helps you recognize your strengths and move toward a fulfilling life.

I use evidence-based approaches, including CBT, DBT, strengths-based, and person-centered therapy techniques, to help clients process trauma, manage emotions, and navigate life’s challenges. My style is compassionate, direct, and collaborative. Together, we’ll build coping skills, identify strengths, and work toward meaningful, lasting change.

Taking the first step toward therapy can feel overwhelming, but you don’t have to navigate life’s challenges alone. I believe everyone deserves to feel heard and supported without judgment. Wherever you are in your journey, I’m here to meet you with compassion and help you move toward healing. When you’re ready, I invite you to schedule an appointment.

"I believe healing begins when you feel truly heard, understood, and supported, and I strive to create a safe, compassionate space where we can work through life's challenges, process trauma, and build a path toward lasting growth and healing."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

I chose to become a therapist because I have always had a passion for helping others navigate some of life's most difficult moments. Through my own life experiences, I have come to understand how deeply trauma, grief, and unexpected challenges can impact our emotional well-being. These experiences strengthened my desire to create a space where people feel genuinely heard, understood, and supported without judgment. I believe that even in our most difficult seasons, healing and growth are possible. Being able to walk alongside others as they rediscover their strengths, find hope, and create meaningful change is what makes this work so important to me.

What types of clients do you work best with?

I work best with adolescents and adults who are navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, emotional regulation difficulties, and significant life transitions. I particularly enjoy working with individuals who feel overwhelmed, misunderstood, or stuck in patterns they want to change. I also have a passion for supporting individuals experiencing suicidal thoughts or more complex mental health challenges. My approach is compassionate, direct, and collaborative, and I strive to meet each client where they are while helping them build confidence, develop healthier coping skills, and create meaningful, lasting change.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?

I wish every client knew that healing is not a linear process, and progress doesn't always look the way we expect it to. Some days will feel easier than others, and that's okay. Therapy isn't about having all the answers or being perfect; it's about learning to understand yourself, recognizing your strengths, and developing the tools to navigate life's challenges. You don't have to have everything figured out to begin, and even the smallest steps forward can lead to meaningful, lasting change.

What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?

During our first session, my priority is getting to know you, understanding what brought you to therapy, and creating a space where you feel comfortable, heard, and supported without judgment. We'll discuss your current concerns, relevant personal history, and what you hope to gain from therapy. I understand that opening up to someone new can feel intimidating, so we'll move at a pace that feels comfortable for you. In the early stages, we'll work together to identify goals, recognize patterns, and begin developing practical coping skills. My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and direct when needed. I believe building a strong therapeutic relationship is the foundation for meaningful growth and lasting change.

What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?

My personal experiences with grief, loss, and life's unexpected challenges have deeply shaped the way I approach therapy. I understand that life can change in an instant and that healing often requires patience, resilience, and support. These experiences have strengthened my belief in the importance of compassion, authenticity, and meeting people where they are without judgment. I value honesty, connection, and creating a space where clients feel safe being themselves, even during their most vulnerable moments. I believe our experiences do not have to define our future, and that with the right support, meaningful healing and growth are possible.

How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?

I believe therapy should never be a one-size-fits-all approach. Every client brings their own experiences, challenges, strengths, and goals into the therapeutic space. I take time to understand each person's unique needs and tailor my approach using evidencebased techniques, including CBT, DBT, strengths-based, and person-centered therapy. Some clients benefit from practical coping strategies and structured goalsetting, while others need space to process difficult emotions, trauma, or life experiences. My approach is flexible, collaborative, and compassionate, while also being direct and challenging when appropriate. I meet clients where they are and work alongside them to develop realistic goals, build on their existing strengths, and create meaningful, lasting change.
