Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I have always been fascinated by people's minds and behavior. I never stop being impressed by how remarkably individual each person's mind and experiences are. I truly enjoy getting to know each person I work with as individual and identifying effective strategies for meeting their individual needs.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I have learned over the years I get a bit bored if I do too much of the same thing. I really like working with people of all ages with variety of challenges. My favorite clients are the ones that are motivated to dig in to their challenges and work to make changes, even when change is hard.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I always get excited about working with children. Kids bring so much energy and unfiltered insight about the world. You never know what you're going to get when you work with kids and I always leave those sessions feeling a little more energized.
What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?
Change can be hard and scary, but when we truly commit to positive changes and make those changes with support from qualified professionals they can lead to incredible improvement. Sometimes we have to do hard things to live the lives we deserve to live.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I needed a job that supports my goals as a motivated professional and supports my needs and boundaries as a committed wife and mother.
What inspires you?
When I need to clear my head, de-stress, relax, or get some new perspective, I head outdoors. Camping, hiking, backpacking, gardening, kayaking - I love it all.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
I will take the time to get to know you as a unique individual with unique experiences so we can work together to figure out what your unique needs are and what therapeutic approaches will work best for you. You won't feel like a number, a diagnosis, or an inconvenience.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I work hard in the first session to identify initial goals for therapy and make sure each individual leaves with a least one good technique to start reducing distress and feeling improvement.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
Creating a collaborative relationship with individuals is very important to me. I work to create an environment where we can work together as equal parts of a team. I bring my professional training and experience to the table, but every individual is an expert on themselves and I like them to bring that expertise to therapy as an active participant.
What’s one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
Compassion. I don't just sit by if I someone or something is suffering. I step in and help in any way I can.
