About Arturo
I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) with a master's degree in clinical counseling and over 5 years of experience in the mental health field, including the past four years providing direct therapy. I have extensive experience working with teens and young adults, supporting them through a range of emotional and behavioral challenges while providing a supportive space for growth and healing. My approach is client-centered, practical, and goal-oriented. I integrate principles from therapy, sports psychology, and coaching to help clients build resilience, improve emotional regulation, and develop meaningful, lasting change.
I am bilingual in English and Spanish, which allows me to effectively support a diverse client population and provide culturally responsive care. Originally from Venezuela, I moved to St. Louis at the age of 16. I have also traveled to over 20 countries, shaping my cultural awareness and ability to connect with clients from a wide range of backgrounds.
At 32, I bring both clinical training and real-world perspective to my work, helping clients move forward with clarity, confidence, and purpose.

"As a bilingual therapist with over five years of experience working with teens and young adults, I create a supportive, practical space where we can understand what’s holding you back and build the tools you need to move forward—on and off the field."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
Growing up as an only child, I often came across situation ins which I wished I had a sibling in order to talk to things that I would rather not talk to my parents about, even though I had a great life at home. This led me to realize that most people need an outlet, at times, in order to open up and process things that be bothering or concerning them, which is why I decided to become a therapist, so that I could be that outlet and allowed people that would like help, to be heard.
What types of clients do you work best with?
Teens and young adults.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
It is something that takes time. Practicing coping skills will allow individuals to use them more efficiently when needed.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
Going over informed consent, discussing expectations, setting goals and establishing a therapeutic alliance.
What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?
My approach to therapy is shaped by my experience growing up in Venezuela and moving to the United States at age 16. Navigating a new culture and language at a young age gave me a deep appreciation for resilience, identity development, and the challenges that come with major life transitions. These experiences allow me to connect with clients who feel stuck, misunderstood, or in the process of redefining themselves. I value authenticity, accountability, and growth. I believe therapy should be a space where clients feel supported but also challenged to make meaningful changes. My bilingual background and exposure to diverse cultures—through both my personal journey and travel to over 20 countries—have strengthened my ability to provide culturally responsive and respectful care.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
Being an active listener. I begin by building a strong therapeutic relationship and gaining a clear understanding of each client’s goals, background, and current challenges. From there, I take an individualized and flexible approach, integrating techniques from evidencebased therapies along with principles from sports psychology and coaching when appropriate. With teens and young adults in particular, I focus on meeting them where they are—adapting communication style, pacing, and interventions to match their level of readiness and personality. I collaborate with clients to set clear, achievable goals and regularly check in on progress, making adjustments as needed.
