Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I became a counselor because my counselor is the only thing that helped me through a very dark stage in my past. I went through a terrible stage of depression after losing two very important people in my life. I thought I would never pull myself out of that dark hole, but my counselor helped me. I want to offer this same help to others that need the same encouragement and guidance.
What types of clients do you work with best?
The type of clients that I work with best is those that battle with depression, trauma, anxiety, and grief symptoms. I think the reason that I work with these clients best is because I can relate to these symptoms since I have battled with them in my past.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
The clients that I am most excited to work with are those that feel like they are dealing with a negative mind set and are having a hard time finding the drive to keep going. I am looking forward to helping these clients find the light at the end of the dark tunnel.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I wish all clients knew how powerful and inspiring they can be in this world and to others around them. I want clients to know that it’s okay to not be okay and that you can find the strength by reaching out for help.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I chose to practice at Thriveworks because I wanted to work with a variety of clients facing a wide range of issues. I want to be the difference in a client’s life today.
What inspires you?
Reaching goals inspires me. I like to see the hard work that I put forth in making something happen pay off. I am inspired when noticing changes after working with something or someone. I like to see that what I do matters and is making a difference especially to someone else.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Clients can expect me to do an intake with them in the first session to understand symptoms, past experiences, and other areas of importance. I also want to go over the strengths that a client has that can help them achieve the counseling goals. Overall, the first session is to help counselor and client to build rapport and achieve a treatment plan.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
The goal that I have to accomplish in the first session with a client is to understand the counseling goals that they have set for themselves. I also want to outline treatment goals and get a direction on what the client wants me to help them change.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
I would want my clients to know that I am going to walk alongside them in the journey. I want the clients to know that I will work hard for them and do anything I can do to help them achieve the goals that they have set for themselves.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I enjoy binge watching Netflix shows in my relaxing time with my son. I also enjoy riding horseback with my sister and dad.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
One thing that defines me non-professional is that I am a mother to a beautiful baby boy that just turned 1. I am blessed getting to watch him grow up and raising my little mini.
