Vauwn Hinton is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 5 years of experience working with children, adults, and families navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, life transitions, postpartum/women's issues, parenting challenges/development, attachment, and behavioral concerns. She is passionate about working with children/adolescents, parents, and pregnant and postpartum women navigating life transitions and mental health concerns.
Vauwn earned a Master's in Social Work from the University of Michigan. She has experience using mindfulness-based practices, cognitive behavioral therapy, trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy interventions, infant-parent psychotherapy, supportive counseling, and child-centered play.
Starting therapy can feel overwhelming, but Vauwn believes each client deserves validation, connection, and hope for a better tomorrow. She views clients as experts in their lives and works alongside them to build a mental health journey that supports their goals and fosters growth.

"As a new mother, I understand how life transitions can feel vulnerable and challenging. Together, we can navigate whatever change you may be going through. Much of our life is outside of our control, but I will help you identify your strengths, feel heard, and be validated because you matter."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider
In my adolescent youth, I remember mental health professionals helping me through my own mental health struggles. Afterward, I wanted to be in this profession to give those around me the same experience of feeling accepted and heard.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with clients who are authentic, open to learning, and willing to attempt sitting in the discomfort of their feelings (which can be very hard work).
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am excited to work with expecting and post-partum mothers, new parents, adolescents, and children. I believe there is so much value in learning from individual across the life span and from cultural backgrounds different than my own.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
Therapy is rarely ever a quick fix to solve our life problems. And progress is not linear. We all carry past, present, and new experiences throughout our lives. It would be unobtainable to expect from ourselves constant progress.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I chose to practice at Thriveworks because I strongly believe in work, life, and balance. Every person deserves that in their career. I appreciate to work in an environment that accommodates my clients and self with a hybrid (telehealth/in-person) atmosphere.
What inspires you?
Learning and seeing the beauty in the small, every day things inspires me. I think we focus so much on "What is next? ", "What do I need to do next in life", and it can all feel overwhelming. Stepping back and being present with family, the outdoors, and finding pleasure in the small things makes me feel like I can be a better person to those around me.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Clients can expect warmth and authenticity from me. We will complete some initial assessments and paperwork together to help me know your history and background better.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I hope those I work with feel a sense of ease and excitement starting therapy. I hope to have an understanding of one another's expectations and boundaries.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
Meeting new people can create anxiety. I hope you are proud of yourself for taking this first step. I want you to know that I strongly believe that you are the expert in yourself and your goals. I believe in being warm, calm, and non-judgmental because it is important to feel safe when our mental health experiences can be and feel vulnerable
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I love going finding trails to hike with my dog and family. I love visiting National Parks and taking in the beauty of our planet. In my spare time, I like reading and finding Youtube workouts to try out.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I would say connection defines me. Being human, we need connection. It can be hard to find that in such a big, complicated world. Connection to people, animals, and places define my belief in being present and mindful in order to have a healthier mind and body.
