I am Dr. Valorie Cheyne, a fully licensed psychologist who has been practicing since the 1980s. Trained in humanistic, person-centered psychology, I work with individuals and couples facing relationship difficulties, anxiety, depression, fears, phobias and life transitions. I help clients who want to better understand themselves, move beyond patterns that no longer serve them, strengthen their relationships and create greater balance, meaning and fulfillment in their lives.
My style is warm, collaborative and eclectic. Rather than using one approach for everyone, I draw from a range of therapeutic methods, mindfulness, and wellness practices to meet each client's unique needs. Together, we explore underlying patterns, build on strengths, and develop healthier ways of thinking, communicating, and responding to life’s challenges.
Life can leave us feeling stuck, overwhelmed or disconnected from ourselves and those we love. I believe growth and change are possible at every stage of life. You don’t have to find your way alone. Together, we can work toward greater balance, connection and well-being.

"As an experienced psychologist I am passionate about helping people better understand themselves, work through life’s challenges, break patterns that aren't working and move toward healthier, more fulfilling lives."
Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I have always derived pleasure from helping people with their problems. I also consider myself to be non-judgmental and a good listener so becoming a psychologist was a natural career choice combining my strengths.
What types of clients do you work best with?
My ideal clients are individuals who are mature and interested in personal growth. I appreciate people who are highly motivated to become better versions of themselves.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
I wish all clients knew that having a psychologist in their back pocket was a gift to help them travel through the ups and downs of life. Just like having a doctor or a dentist they're there when you need them.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
Initially, I like to go over a client's history with them so I get a better understanding of what their childhood, adolescence and adulthood have been like so far. I also like to find what their focus and goals are for being here. By the second session the ball is in the client's court and we begin wherever they want to start.
What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?
I value fairness, understanding, feeling heard, acceptance, openness, respect and appreciation. In turn, I give my clients the same respect, empathy, fairness and regard in order to build a trusting relationship.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
I don't believe in a "one size fits all" approach to therapy. I meet each person where they are and together, we identify what they hope to change. I build on the strengths they already possess and find approaches that fit their individual personality needs and goals.
