Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I became interested in practicing therapy after a wonderful experience with a counselor. I experienced mental health complications throughout my childhood and adolescence, through working with this counselor I learned skills and techniques that have carried me to a successful and happy adult life. In addition to this experience I have always had empathy for others and interest in the dynamics of well being. All of these things led me to where I am now, and I sincerely enjoy helping people.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I always want to tell clients about what I call "the magic of talking". Humans are social creatures, and talking, no matter how insignificant it may feel, often makes us feel better. Specific interventions and techniques are wonderful and are of course a part of my practice, but on a hard day simply talking to another person, in a safe place, can makes things feel better.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I chose to work with Thriveworks in order to best connect and support the clients I see. I focus on people and well being. With Thriveworks I am best able to focus on the aspects of practice I love and dedicate my efforts to helping others.
What inspires you?
I am inspired by the potential I see in all people. People are amazing and helping people be their best selves and feel the best they can motivates me. It can be hard to live in the world, and I want to make it a little easier.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
In any initial session I want to set a tone of non-judgement and empathy. In practice, I am the client's advocate and I want that to come across in the first session. We will likely get to know each other and talk about the surface of any presenting concerns, but the client is always in control of where we take a session.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I want a client to leave a first session feeling comfortable and safe.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
As a therapist, I am here for the client. I aim to help and support at any speed the client feels comfortable with.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I read a lot, write, play games on a PC, and love the outdoors/nature. I am also an active Jiu-Jitsu competitor with experience coaching and instructing.
