Why did you decide to become a counselor?
It is so rewarding when others trust to share their stories with me. And then to see the light in their eyes or the weight lifted off their shoulders when they come to understand themselves better and experience positive outcomes to the changes they have made.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with clients who want to better understand themselves and are open to learning techniques to help them live their best lives.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am most excited to work with adults who want to better understand how their past life experiences impact their current self, and then are open to learn ways to manage or change any negative behaviors or thoughts that impact their life.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I wish all clients knew that there are reasons why we do the things we do. Our brains and bodies are powerful yet pliable. Once we are able to notice how our brains and bodies react to certain situations, we are better able to manage any negative thoughts and behaviors and “rewire” our brains for more positive outcomes, as well as come to better understand ourselves.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
After learning more about Thriveworks, reading so many positive reviews from clients and staff and meeting staff, I understood that Thriveworks truly cares for their clients’ well-being and growth as well as their employees’ well-being and growth.
What inspires you?
I am inspired by learning, change and adaptability and working with those who are open to learning and change. Adapting our new learning to our lives, allows us to build compassion for ourselves and others and welcome change rather than fear it.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
During our first session, I hope to learn more about you and begin to develop a relationship of trust. Through thoughtful collaboration, we will have conversation about your current self, your past and what goals you have for yourself, both short-term and long-term. We will then discuss what may be limiting your reach toward those goals and begin to develop a plan.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I want to better understand my client and what they want to achieve in their sessions with me. I want to learn what behaviors or thoughts are causing distress or prevents them from accomplishing their goals as well as what their successes and strengths are.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
My sessions are focused on you - listening to you to gain better understanding of how your past life experiences may be affecting your current life. I also want to know about your successes and strengths. I also want to help clients build more positive coping tools.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I love being with family and friends, camping, hiking and bike riding. I also enjoy reading and watching movies.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
This may sound funny – but I think being both organized and being able to adapt to changes. This allows me to get things done both personally and professionally, roll with change and have fun!
