About Payton
My name is Dr. Payton Jackson III. I am a licensed clinical social worker and hold a doctorate in education. I have 31 years of experience in the fields of social work and education. I have worked with family counseling, individual counseling, individuals in substance abuse recovery, youth ages 14 to 18, and as a counselor, dean of students, assistant principal, and principal in high schools. These experiences have taught me that life's challenges are ongoing, and I believe that we are not designed to deal with life's journey on our own. I enjoy working with people to overcome these challenges.
My client-centered and strength-based approaches provide assistance to individuals in dealing with life's expectancies, both planned and unplanned. Self-empowerment and an understanding of what can be controlled and what cannot is essential. Working in step and together in a therapeutic relationship can make a positive difference in this journey.
You are not alone! The pathway of being the best person for yourself is real. Life and all it has to offer will definitely show up during this journey. You have the ability to overcome and thrive in the midst of this walk. Let's work together to have the best experiences possible on our life's journey, stay encouraged, and make an appointment with me.

"I am a Christian, with a God centered therapeutic approach to dealing with the realities of life, I have a passion to assist individuals on their life journey of aligning their plans with the plans God has for them."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I decided to become a counselor because I love for people to reach their full potential. The ability for one to be able to give and receive love unconditionally is awesome. This begins with the ability to love one's self. It is a wonderful experience for me when individuals realize their own inner power and resilience. I love to help people accomplish their goal.
What types of clients do you work best with?
I work best with clients that have some internal motivation for change. Clients that have an understanding that a perfect person does not exist and are open to build on their strength.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
One thing that I wish that all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process is that there should be room for grace on their journey of change.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
A client should expect an introduction of who I am. They should expect a genuine level of engagement and a brief exploration of how the client arrived at desiring a therapeutic intervention.
What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?
What informs my practice as a therapist is an internal motivation to help and encourage others. My personal experiences in my own life of overcoming various barriers and challenges, both internally and externally. My broad professional experiences with various groups of people and circumstances have been valuable in my learning process as a helper.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
Therapy is tailored by the needs of the client. This is based on listening effectively of what a client is communicating. Each client's situation is uniquely different. Treatment plan goals are agreed upon with the client. The goals can be accomplished through a variety of methods, depending on which is most effective with the client. Therefore clear and open communication is a must.
