Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I decided to become a counselor because I have a passion in helping others find their path. When I was a child up to my early adult years my parents fostered teenage girls. Each new foster sibling would come with their own unique story. Unfortunately, each story was filled with trauma, tragedy, and a motivation to have a better life but not know how. Through spending time getting to know my foster siblings I realized that if I worked hard myself, then I could help them on their journey as well.
What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?
That they are not on this journey alone.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
Thriveworks allows me to focus all of my attention on the clients and their therapy, rather than on administration and networking.
What inspires you?
My inspriation comes from facilitating clients' change toward positive and healthy solutions in order for them to live a productive and fulfilling life. I consider it a privilege being a part of someone's journey.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
I am very laid back; the first session is all about getting to know each other. I ask lots of questions in order to gain insight into what someone is struggling with. Feeling comfortable with your therapist is key to building a solid therapeutic relationship.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
A good foundation to build a therapeutic relationship. My goal for the first session is to establish good communication and a comfort level so that my clients feel safe enough to be vulnerable.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I enjoy spending time with my family and friends traveling, trying new things, and laughing together.
What’s one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
How I treat other people defines me. You can be the CEO, the intern, a blue or white collar worker and I will treat you the same. It does not matter where you came from, how educated you are, or what you believe. All people deserve the same amount of dignity and respect regardless if I agree with you or not.
