Get to know Gayle
Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
Helping others comes second nature to me. Even at a young age, I was the person people talked to for support and advice.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with clients who are willing to do the work to become the best version of themselves.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am most excited to work with clients who are open to operating outside of their comfort zone. Change is not comfortable. Someone who is okay with being comfortable with the uncomfortable may thrive in therapy.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
We are all going through something and that's okay! No one is perfect no matter how things may seem.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
Thriveworks offers me the ability to live the life I desire which translates to me being a better clinician.
What inspires you?
Music, art, learning new things, reaching my goals, overcoming obstacles, experiences of others who overcame obstacles or made an impact.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
A safe space to share their thoughts without judgement, feel heard, understood and hopeful about working towards positive change.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
The feeling of being welcome, comfortable, and safe. A discussion on informed consent to therapy. Role induction, expectations, the pros/cons of any previous therapy experience that may inform how we work together now. Begin the process of rapport building and trust to ensure I'm a good fit for them. As well as, hear and listen to their story so they feel understood and validated, and continue doing so until they invite me to help them.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
I can only help you if you are willing to help yourself. Therapy is a collaborative effort.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
Spend time in nature, visit art museums, paint, sing, hike, spend time with family and friends and go on scenic drives.
