Why did you decide to become a counselor?
When I was a child my family adopted four children. Each of my adopted and biological siblings had struggles of their own but we all shared a sense of feeling like no one understood or knew how to help. I also watched my parents struggle without adequate supports. I decided to become a counselor to help other parents find support and to help kids navigate the changes in life with someone who understands.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with clients who are motivated for change. I want the absolute best for everyone I work with but I cannot make changes in the lives of people who do not want to change for themselves.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am excited to work with clients who want to live a life they love! I have experience working with a wide range of clients and the joy I feel watching people become versions of themselves that they love is absolutely amazing.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I wish all clients knew that they deserve to have happiness, love, and purpose. We have all walked different paths in life and have struggled with out own issues but regardless of where we have been or where we are going we deserve to love ourselves, feel happiness in life, and have future hope and purpose.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
Thriveworks provides a unique opportunity to meet with a wide range of ages, life stories, and cultural backgrounds. It also provides the flexibility I need as a working mom with little ones at home.
What inspires you?
I am most inspired by my parents. Over the years, I watched my parents welcome strangers and friends into their lives and into our family. My parents model selfless love and care for everyone they come in contact with and that selfless care is what I aspire to do in my own life.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
In our first session together, you can expect a safe emotional environment. I want to know who you are, why you decided to make changes in your life, and what you are wanting from our time together. It is important to me that you feel respected in your goals and decisions so I will partner with you to help you achieve your goals!
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I want to lay a strong foundation of trust and respect. I want us both to have an opportunity to get to know each other. I aim to have a baseline for where you are and at least one goal that you are working towards.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
I am a very realistic person. I want our time together to be beneficial and productive. I firmly believe that one hour a week together is not the most impactful part of the change you are wanting: it is the work that you put in during your daily life. I ask a lot of questions to make sure we are creating goals and habits that fit with you and your life.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I love animals, reading, and spending time with my family! I spend time each week at a horse barn teaching lessons, grooming horses, and cleaning stalls. I find it so therapeutic!
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
One thing that defines me in life is how I care. I know first hand that not all scars are visible so I strive to treat every living thing I come in contact with as a unique and important being.
