About Skyler
I am Skyler Irons, a Licensed Certified Clinical Social Worker with 12+ years of experience in various settings: community mental health, school-based therapy, inpatient psychiatric social work, community outreach and advocacy, as well as individual, group, and family counseling. I received my master's of social work from Salisbury University. Though I have worked with all ages, I feel most connected to adults seeking therapy for: stress management, interpersonal and partnership dynamics, family stressors, Neurodiversity, gender and identity, life transitions and self-esteem.
I take an integrative approach with my clients. I am a person-centered, solution-focused and strengths-based clinician who will honor your pace in sessions while incorporating humor and creativity.
"Without the darkness, we wouldn't be able to see the stars." I love being a part of someone's journey to finding the beauty in the hardship. I look forward to helping you identify and celebrate your unique strengths.

"As a queer Neurodivergent therapist, I love to help others develop confidence in their identity while helping them embrace whatever their version of unmasking is in their journey of *becoming*."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I've always found myself to be innately empathetic and curious. I've never given up on people. I've experienced my own trials and triumphs. This career was my predestined purpose and I love what I do.
What types of clients do you work with best?
Everyone is welcome.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
Young adults.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
Joining a Clinician-Founded and Clinician-Led Mental Health Clinic means that I'm joining a culture of work-life balance which means that I can be the best version of myself when working with my clients.
What inspires you?
Nature, books, art and music are all inspirations to me; they are the magic of my life.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
I'd like to hear your expectations for therapy and your past experiences with therapy. I like to introduce myself and my style so that clients have the opportunity to ensure that we'd be a good fit moving forward. First sessions are a good time for answering any questions, going over any expectations and guidelines, as well as beginning to build that trust and rapport that is so crucial to any effective working relationship.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I'd like insight into their perspective of what goals they'd like to aim for in our work together.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
I have ADHD and this means that my energy levels can vary; I am human.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
Camping, reading, junk journaling, resin crafting, napping.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I am a Virgo-Leo-Cusp.
"Do I contradict myself? Very well then I contradict myself; I am large, I contain multitudes." - Walt Whitman.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
I am flexible and intuitive which compliments an integrative approach where I ensure the client remains the only expert on themselves in the room. The therapeutic relationship is just as important as the skills and interventions.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
There is no "fixing" you involved in therapy, because you are not broken. Trust that healing is not linear and it's expected to ebb and flow
What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?
I've received a lot of feedback over the years of how sharing my own experiences and vulnerability with others helps with relatability and trust.
