Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I became a counselor to support BIPOC communities, advocate for mental health and wellness, and reduce stigma—particularly within South Asian communities. My goal is to address social and racial injustices, the wealth gap, and the needs of underserved and marginalized populations. I aim to empower individuals, uplift communities, and spread compassion and humor along the way.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I am committed to working with BIPOC individuals, addressing the pervasive impacts of racial, social, and generational challenges. I also focus on supporting immigrant, first-generation, and second-generation communities. Additionally, I am dedicated to providing sexuality and gender-affirming care for LGBTQ individuals, ensuring a safe and affirming environment for all.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am most excited to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds, especially adolescents and young adults. I particularly enjoy connecting with clients who appreciate Marvel references, as it adds a unique layer of relatability to our conversations!
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I wish all clients knew that humor goes a long way in our journey together. I want you to feel that the therapeutic space is safe and nonjudgmental, while also being genuine and authentic. Some topics may be uncomfortable, and that’s perfectly okay. The therapeutic relationship is built on compassion and care, so if anything feels off, it’s the ideal place to address it and get back on track.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I choose to work at Thriveworks because it aligns with my professional goals of engaging with diverse clientele. The organization’s vast network provides access to various communities across the state, and I appreciate the autonomy it allows in my work with others.
What inspires you?
I am inspired by seeing BIPOC individuals, especially South Asian women, empowered, successful, and full of joy. I also find motivation in those who dedicate their time to giving back to their communities. The beauty of different cultures continually inspires me as well.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
The first session is typically a Q&A, but it can be as conversational as the client prefers. I like to incorporate some humor to build rapport while ensuring the environment is safe and compassionate. It’s also a time for getting to know one another, allowing clients to ask questions and clarify any concerns, which helps increase their knowledge surrounding the therapy process. My goal is to foster a genuine connection within the therapeutic relationship.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I want clients to feel safe and ready to take the first step in therapy. My goal is for them to leave the first session feeling light-hearted, heard, and seen. Creating an inviting atmosphere is essential to building a strong foundation for our work together.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
Before scheduling the first session, I want clients to know that I am genuine and authentic, with a love for laughter. I’m ready to grow and collaborate with them on this journey.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
For fun, I love to travel, exploring different cities and small towns. I’m a huge foodie, always excited to try new dishes! I also enjoy watching movies and TV shows, especially anything from the Marvel universe. I spend quality time with friends and host a podcast where I dive into various topics and share stories.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
One thing that defines me is my love for humor in all its forms. I genuinely enjoy making people laugh and finding joy in the lighter moments of life.
