About Sara
Sara Phipps is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) with 8 years of experience working as a mental health clinician in various settings. She has helped individuals with oppositional behaviors, depression, anxiety, suicide ideation, trauma, anger management, communication, utilizing coping skills, grounding techniques, and mindfulness to help regulate emotions. She is compassionate, understanding, and willing to work with her clients based on their individual needs.
Sara received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with a concentration in Forensic Psychology at Southern New Hampshire University and received her Master of Arts in Clinical and Mental Health counseling through Southern New Hampshire University as well.
Sara uses a mix of therapy approaches because she believes that every client is different and that every client should have their own customized treatment. Therapy approaches include cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused, person-centered, and mindfulness-based techniques. Sara always maintains a positive approach and keeps her clients' needs and wants in mind.
Sara looks at the importance of building a good and honest relationship between counselor and client. This includes building off the strengths that the client is willing to bring to the table. By incorporating strengths and skills that the client already possesses, Sara and the individual can reach the intended goals.

"As a young woman who has allowed self-esteem, confidence, and anxiety to get in the way of life, I understand how difficult it can be to move past these issues and into a place of comfort and confidence. "

Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I love being that person that someone can vent to about anything and that they can find comfort in knowing that I am always there for them.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with clients with self-esteem and anxiety issues because I was once in that position myself. I understand how difficult it can be to pull yourself out and become the confident individual you want to be in order to become your best self.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I look forward to working with clients that are able to open up honestly and aren't afraid to take that next step.
What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?
I wish that clients knew that counselors are just like them and have their own struggles at times. It's not always easy and we don't always have the answers for ourselves.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I love the Thriveworks environment! The support is always there no matter what. Also, during these uncertain times being able to practice telehealth has opened a new door for counseling.
What inspires you?
Overcoming fears and challenges.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
I try to make our first session as organic as possible. Building rapport and a relationship is the most important part of treatment early on. I want to get to know you and I want you to get to know me as well. Ask me anything!
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I want to accomplish setting goals and important reasons why they are seeking therapy in the first place.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
I want to accomplish an understanding that I am not on anyone's side and that we are their to support them and their needs.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I try to read, listen to music, cook, and I love a good reality tv show.
