Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I had already been working in the field when I first encountered the specific career of counseling. I was working with various individuals and bringing them to and from their counseling appointments and I would see a difference in their affect and moods after their appointments. It was a good difference, so I chose to explore the field further and made the choice to pursue it.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am most excited when I get to work with someone who willingly seeks treatment and internally wants change.
What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?
I think it is most helpful when people understand that change requires some humility.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
I think a person can expect that the first session may be a little uncomfortable at first, but may not be as hard as one expects.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I think the first session is important to establish a clear understanding of what one may expect in treatment, clarify what the person hopes to achieve with treatment, and begin to foster a working relationship.
