About Katya
In her role as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Katya helps individuals of all ages achieve their goals in functional and productive ways. Her deep understanding of mental health is demonstrated by her consistent empathy coupled with a no-nonsense approach to identifying obstacles and dealing with interfering behaviors. Katya is passionate about empowering her clients using psychoeducation and helping them develop a powerful toolbox of coping skills that foster self-reliance as they move through life’s challenges. Katya earned her Master’s degree from Boston University.
Working in various clinical environments, Katya became well-versed in the realities of mental health issues. As a mom and therapist, she managed the challenges of competing roles. This is pivotal to her clinical approach. She favors tenets of dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and cognitive behavioral therapy to encourage her clients to reach their goals.
Too often we think that we must tough it out on our own, and yet you are considering bucking that notion! You don’t need to struggle alone. Katya is ready to support your journey to a healthier self, so take that first step and schedule your appointment!

"Starting therapy is a leap of faith— it means trusting someone to be there at vulnerable moments."

Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I hated being a teen so naturally I wanted to help others have an easier time getting through that period. As I developed my therapeutic skills I found that people of all ages had times of struggles.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I don't really have a type of client. Everyone comes with challenges and opportunities for growth.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I love working through transitions with my clients. Letting go of old stuff and reinventing one self into a more current version of oneself is so exciting!
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
We can do hard things. Often we are stopped by fear.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I love the practicality of remote work with the opportunity to belong to a community of like minded people.
What inspires you?
Courage.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
A meet and greet, some business, and setting expectations to set start the stage for our journey.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
Establish good rapport.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
I care a lot. I push hard. I believe in our ability to be better.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
Arts and crafts, travel, read, move things in my house to stay fresh and interesting.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I am very curious and love the "aha" moments so I constantly seek those out.
