About Helen
Helen Phoenix is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) with over 20 years of experience working with adults 18 years and up. Helen works with individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, adjustment issues, and stress-related disorders and encourages self-care approaches for improving mental, physical, and emotional health.
Helen completed her Master of Science (MS) in Community Mental Health Counseling at New England College. She practices acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) combined with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), mindfulness, and self-compassion techniques.
Helen focuses on helping individuals identify any self-limiting beliefs that interfere with individual progress and through self-exploration work towards healing and personal growth. She is compassionate about helping others meet their mental health goals and embrace their journey with self-compassion.

Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I grew up with family members who did not have access to the treatment they needed and when mental health stigma was high.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work with clients looking to manage their mental health in an effort to live their best lives.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I enjoy working with a variety of clients who struggle with anxiety or depression and provide evidence-based treatment to help them realize that mental health treatment works.
What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?
Mental health is as important as physical health.

What inspires you?
I get inspiration from my faith and my family.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
I like to educate clients about the science and concepts related to various mental health disorders while getting to know my client and finding out what their goals for treatment are.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I will gather the information necessary to collaboratively understand how to best help individuals with their mental health goals.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
I am happy to answer any of your questions.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I enjoy long walks along the ocean, kayaking, biking and spending time in nature.
