Get to know Elizabeth
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
You aren't alone. There is help, there is hope.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I love what I do and enjoy the ability to work with clients in and around the community I live in. I've worked at a busy crisis and stabilization behavioral health hospital for many years and have a passionate social justice drive to serve there. The turnover is fast since the nature of this level of is very short term. Working at Thriveworks allows me the opportunity to work more deeply with individuals, guiding them through their journeys.
What inspires you?
I am inspired by the need for others to know that they aren't alone, there is help, there is hope.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
I practice from a trauma informed solution focused, strength-based approach, utilizing Cognitive and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, (or CBT and DBT for short) which focuses on how your thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes affect your feelings and behaviors. It’s based on the theory that the distress we feel comes from the meaning we give to events, the narrative, more so than the event. My approach is non-directive which means I’m not here to tell you what your problems are, what’s important to you, what you need to do. My role here is to listen to you, to focus on working with you to identify unhelpful, unhealthy patterns of thinking and acting, and identifying more helpful ways of thinking and healthier, more beneficial behaviors to replace them with. During your initial session, you’ll be invited to share about yourself, what brought you here, what you hope to accomplish together. My role is to be here to support you and guide you through the process, to help you set goals for yourself, build insights, and to introduce you to some techniques that can help get you to live a more fulfilling life.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
During our initial session we'll gather some background information and history. We'll talk about your reasons for coming to counseling and establish a SMART goal that meets your needs. We'll discuss a time to meet again and a schedule that works best with your busy life to support you on your journey.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
When I am not working, I can be found outdoors, by the sea, in the forest, along trails with my dogs, or on my tiny farm among my many much-loved animals!
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
Reaching out to help others. Always.
