About Tameka
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with 20 years of experience helping children, adolescents, young adults, and college students navigate life’s challenges. I work with clients facing anxiety, depression, loneliness, ADHD, relationship issues, life transitions, and parenting stress. I am passionate about creating a safe and supportive environment where clients feel understood, valued, and empowered to begin their healing journey.
I earned my Doctorate in Counselor Education from the University of New Orleans. My therapeutic approach is rooted in empathy, collaboration, and active listening. I draw from evidence-based practices to meet each client’s unique needs and believe a genuine connection is the foundation for lasting change.
Finding the right therapist can feel overwhelming, but you don’t have to do it alone. I invite you to take the first step toward healing by reaching out. If we are a good fit, we will work together to create meaningful progress. If not, I encourage you to keep looking until you find the support that feels right for you.

"I’m Dr Bob (yes, Bob is really my last name)! I can't wait to hear what's going on in your world!"

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I became a counselor because I really care about making a difference in people's lives. Seeing how many people need mental health support, especially those from underrepresented groups, made me want to be a part of the solution. I think everyone deserves help and guidance, and I'm here to provide that to those who need it the most.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I enjoy working with clients who are ready for change.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I specialize in providing support to young people, young adults, and individuals who identify as single. My areas of expertise include assisting clients with anxiety, depression, career-related concerns, and navigating significant life transitions.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I wish clients knew they can do anything they put their mind to. Even more, I wish they knew what they were put on this earth to do; it's a real gift to know that.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
Thriveworks provides an incredibly supportive and professional environment, which enables me to fully utilize my skills and talents. In addition to the excellent professional development opportunities, I also greatly appreciate the fantastic perks offered.
What inspires you?
I get my inspiration from believing in hope, seeing the amazing power of art, and knowing that positive change is always possible.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Our first session is all about you getting to know me. I'm happy to answer any questions you have, and you don't have to share everything right away – I'm cool with you taking the lead.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I focus on building a comfy and trusting relationship in our first session. I think it's super important for clients to feel safe enough to talk about what's going on and actually return for the second session.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I consider myself a creative individual.
