Hi, I’m Melissa. I’m passionate about helping people work through and heal from trauma, grief, and loss in all its forms. My approach is shaped by both professional education and lived compassion. I earned my bachelor’s degree from the University of New Orleans and my Master of Social Work from Southern University at New Orleans. Through my education and experience, I’ve developed a deep understanding of the emotional, psychological, and spiritual dimensions of loss. My goal is to provide compassionate support rooted in presence, respect, and care, helping each person navigate their healing journey at their own pace.

I use a humanistic, eclectic approach to create personalized, supportive therapy, tailored to your needs. I will take time to understand your story, honor your strengths, and meet you where you are as you work toward healing, self-awareness, and personal growth.

You don’t have to navigate this journey alone. I offer a compassionate, nonjudgmental space where you can feel heard, supported, and encouraged as you take steps toward healing. When you feel ready, I invite you to schedule an appointment and begin the process of caring for yourself.

"As a woman with her own experiences of trauma and loss, I bring a deep understanding of how life's most painful moments can shape us. I also believe, in the midst of these experiences, we deserve the chance to work towards feeling whole again."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

After profound challenges of living with and divorcing a partner with antisocial personality disorder, I returned to school to deepen my understanding and support others navigating similar experiences of loss and transition.

What types of clients do you work best with?

I work best with adults navigating trauma, grief, loss, and major life transitions. I especially support individuals healing from difficult relationships, anticipatory grief, caregiver burnout, and the emotional challenges of terminal illness. I also work with clients seeking greater self-awareness, healthier coping skills, and relief from symptoms associated with grief and loss.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?

I wish all clients knew that therapy can be deeply helpful, but finding the right therapist is an important part of the process. If you ever feel that we are not the right fit, I encourage you to share that openly. I will support you without judgment and, when possible, help you find a therapist who better meets your needs.

What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?

In our first session, you can expect a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental space to share what brings you to therapy, discuss your goals, and begin exploring your experiences. I will take time to understand your story, strengths, and current challenges while answering any questions you may have about the therapy process. In the early stages of therapy, we will work collaboratively to build trust and create a treatment plan based on your needs and goals. Together, we may focus on developing healthy coping skills, increasing self-awareness, and finding relief from symptoms related to trauma, grief, loss, or major life transitions. Therapy is a process, and we will move at a pace that feels safe and manageable for you.

How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?

I will take the time to understand each client’s story, concerns, strengths, values, and goals. I use a humanistic, eclectic approach, drawing from different therapeutic approaches to create a plan that fits your individual needs and preferences. We work collaboratively, regularly checking in and adjusting our focus as your needs change. I honor your pace, comfort level, and readiness, creating space for meaningful reflection, growth, and lasting change.
