About Jacqueline
I am Jacqueline Lloyd, a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor with 21 years of experience in the field. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of supporting individuals through anxiety, depression, trauma, and major life transitions, and I remain deeply committed to fostering growth, resilience, and healing. My goal is to provide a supportive and culturally responsive space where clients feel understood, empowered, and equipped with practical tools to create meaningful and lasting change.
I hold a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling from Southern University A&M College. I draw on approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and person-centered therapy, tailoring each session to meet my clients’ unique needs.
I understand how overwhelming life’s challenges can feel, and I want my clients to know they do not have to face them alone. Whether you are feeling stuck, seeking clarity, or ready for transformation, I am here to walk alongside you with care and compassion as you take the next step toward healing.

"As an African-American female therapist, I want you to know that I offer a warm, non-judgmental space where you're genuinely heard and supported in whatever you're going through."
Get to know Jacqueline
Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I became a counselor because I know what it’s like to navigate the world carrying invisible burdens, and how powerful it can be to have someone truly listen and understand. As an African American woman, I'm passionate about creating a space where clients—especially those from marginalized or underserved communities—feel safe, respected, and supported. My journey into counseling was inspired by a deep desire to help others heal, grow, and reclaim their voice.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with clients who are ready to explore their thoughts, emotions, and patterns with openness and honesty—even if they’re not sure where to begin. I am especially effective with individuals navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, identity concerns, or life transitions. Clients who appreciate a collaborative, compassionate, and culturally aware approach tend to thrive in my care. I value working with people who are seeking not just relief, but growth, insight, and lasting change.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am passionate about working with clients who are ready to better understand themselves, challenge old patterns, and take meaningful steps toward healing. I am drawn to clients who may be high-functioning on the outside but struggling internally—with anxiety, depression, trauma, or self-worth—and are seeking a safe, affirming space to be vulnerable, seen, and supported.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I wish client's knew that if you are aware of it, you can take care of it.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I chose to work at Thriveworks because it allows me to focus on what matters most—showing up fully for my clients. With the administrative support and steady client referrals, I can dedicate my energy to providing high-quality, compassionate care. I also value Thriveworks’ commitment to accessibility, inclusion, and creating a supportive environment for both clients and clinicians. It’s a place where I can grow professionally while maintaining a healthy balance in my own life.
What inspires you?
What inspires me most as a therapist is witnessing the strength and resilience people show even in their hardest moments. I’m motivated by the opportunity to walk alongside clients as they discover new ways to heal, grow, and reclaim their lives. Knowing that even small shifts in perspective or coping can create lasting change fuels my passion every day.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
In your first session with me, you can expect a warm, non-judgmental space where we’ll get to know each other and explore what brought you to therapy. I’ll listen closely to your story, understand your goals, and explain how I work so we can build a plan that fits your unique needs. This session is about creating trust and setting the foundation for your healing journey.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
In the first session, I aim to create a safe and welcoming space where clients feel heard and understood. My goal is to gather a clear understanding of their concerns, experiences, and goals, while building trust and rapport. Together, we’ll begin exploring what healing and growth look like for them and start shaping a personalized plan to support their journey.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
I am a direct communicator, and I have a sense of humor. I don't take myself too seriously, I'm more casual than formal. We indeed talk like grown people and emotions are always allowed. I am not personally sensitive to anything.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
For fun I like to travel, shop, go to concerts, or listen to live bands. I enjoy my family time as much as my alone time. I love to try new things and places.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
One thing that defines me is my cultural insight—as an African American woman, I bring a unique understanding of identity and community that helps me connect deeply with clients from diverse backgrounds.
