Get to know Thomas
Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I find that I enjoy learning new things and experiencing different ways to solve problems. Counseling offers a unique opportunity to constantly grow in both learning and experiences that I find fits my personality.
What types of clients do you work with best?
People that enjoy humor as part of the healing process. I find that helping couples, young adults, and those with substance use have been receptive to my style of "casual confrontation".
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
People that are eager to try the exercises and homework that are assigned in session. I truly like working with all types of clients.
What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?
Counseling is a marathon, not a sprint. We can find some quick wins but for lasting change you'll need to stay the course!
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I was drawn to their mission of providing fast, reliable services. They truly care about both clients and employees.
What inspires you?
Music, helping people, my family.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
In the first session clients can expect a general overview of what counseling is going to entail, they can expect to share a little of their story and help me understand why they are seeking services, and to get to know me a little as I get to know them.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
Build rapport and get to know their story a little.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
Read, play with my kids, watch football, eat, drink good coffee.
What’s one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
Warm and compassionate. I've been told that I help people feel comfortable quickly which is true both professionally and non-professionally.
