Terrace Poindexter is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 23 years of experience. He assists individuals age 11+ with concerns including anxiety, depression, anger, ADHD, grief, trauma, stress, and self-esteem. In a supportive, non-judgmental space, Terrance explores with his clients experiences and patterns and develops practical tools to manage stress, navigate emotions, and build resilience. Clients can expect compassion, collaboration, and actionable strategies in every session.
Terrance received his Master of Social Work from Indiana University South Bend. He utilizes evidence-based approaches like cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, and strength-based strategies to address clients’ unique needs.

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I have always been a great listener and enjoy helping others.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work well with clients who are motivated to change and opened to feedback.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am most excited to work with a client who possess insight and are willing to step outside their comfort zone.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
That change requires WORK and the journey is not a straight path.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I have worked in a clinical setting for over 5 years and was interested in working in a different setting.
What inspires you?
I am inspired when there is internal growth in a client.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
We will focus on rapport building in our 1st session.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
In addition to rapport building, we will focus goal setting.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
Clients should know that there will be homework assignments between sessions.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I enjoy spending time watching movies, and video games.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
The one thing that describes me is I am solution focused.
