My therapist is the first person to make me feel truly heard and understood. I would not be in a better place mentally if not for her help. I'm very thankful for her help in our sessions.

Get to know Leah
Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I have worked with marginalized and underserved communities since my career began. I always felt like there was a barrier and I wasn't able to do as much as I wanted to. As an LCSW, I am able to advocate a little louder for my clients. I also wanted to bring my lived experience to the field of mental health.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work well with anyone who is interested in exploring their experience and understanding how to navigate the world in a way that is easier for them. I have traditionally worked with people who were 'forced' into therapy and enjoy being able to show people that therapy, "isn't always what you think it is."
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I really enjoy working with the LGBTQIA+ population as well as individuals who identify as women. I love watching people learn about themselves, understand their power, and grow into their true selves.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
Sometimes the way society is set up impacts our mental health and it is not always our brain that's the problem, but the way the world is structured that is problematic.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I was passionate about finding an organization that cared about me AND the clients being served.
What inspires you?
Nature, everyday accomplishments by people who are struggling, activists, music, and people living as their authentic selves.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
You can expect me to go at your pace. I like to identify what brings you to therapy but more importantly, I want to explore what your life is like. Things that bring you joy and provide you comfort. You can expect me to explore what your early life was like as well.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
In the first session, my goal is to make sure they feel comfortable and are able to voice their expectations or goals for therapy. Additionally, exploring any current symptoms and their impact on daily functioning.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I love plants so I have a garden as well as many indoor houseplants that I tend to frequently. I love to create with my hands whether it be painting on a canvas, creating with clay, or woodworking. I love spending time with my pets as well. They love how much I love to garden because it keeps me home!
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
Compassion.
