I adore her ability to listen, give feedback, her wonderful knowledge base, non judgemental disposition, and relaxed demeanor. She is hands down the only therapist I would ever work with.

I am Jennifer Cramer, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with 11 years of experience in the mental health field. I am passionate about supporting teens and adults as they navigate trauma, anxiety, depression, life transitions, eating disorders, body-image struggles, low self-esteem, and family-of-origin issues. My focus is on helping clients heal from past trauma rather than just coping with its effects. I strive to provide a compassionate, supportive environment where clients feel safe to explore challenges and build resilience as they move toward personal growth and meaningful change.

I earned my Master of Mental Health Counseling from Huntington University and am completing my doctorate in International Psychology from The Chicago School in 2024. I am trained in EMDR therapy and draw from cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and motivational interviewing to guide clients toward healing and growth.

Each client’s journey is unique, and I am committed to walking alongside you with empathy and understanding. Together, we can address challenges from your past and build healthier ways of coping and thriving. If you are ready to begin your path toward healing, I would be honored to support and guide you through this important process.

Get to know Jennifer

Why did you decide to become a counselor?

When I was growing up, I always told others that I wanted to be a counselor when I was asked the standard question of what I wanted to be when I grew up. From a young age, I had this natural and innate ability to empathize and connect with others. In high school, I loved to be supportive to others and to help. I always knew that there was a greater purpose to life than just existing, and I knew early on that I wanted to help others to not just exist, but to truly live, thrive, and enjoy life.

What types of clients do you work with best?

As I have worked in several different settings, each providing unique opportunities to work with various populations, I have learned that I work best with teens, young adults, and women.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

I am most excited to work with clients that have experienced any type of trauma. Although I am saddened that anyone has to experience horrific life events, I am passionate about walking alongside clients as they navigate the path to healing. I also am excited to work with clients that are experiencing any life changes.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

One thing that I wish all clients knew was that each healing path and journey is unique to the individual. I want clients to know that how they are feeling and what they are experiencing in this present moment does not have to be permanent. Healing truly is possible.

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

There are several reasons as to why I choose to practice at Thriveworks. Thriveworks provides the flexibility and freedom to truly meet clients where they are at. Thriveworks has a mission that I wholeheartedly believe in as well. Thriveworks enables me to optimally provide appropriate and effective care to those that I work with.

What inspires you?

One thing that truly inspires me is watching those that I come into contact with grow and progress. I love seeing clients' eyes light up when they gain a new insight. I am inspired by seeing the change and knowing that there truly is a way to not just solemnly trudge through life, but to fully enjoy it to the best of our abilities.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

The first session with me as your therapist will be a time for us to connect and to develop an understanding of one another. The first session will provide you the chance to share whatever you feel comfortable sharing with. In the first session, I am open to questions to allow you to gain a better understanding of who I am as a therapist.

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

The main accomplishment that I want to achieve in our first session is to develop that connection. I want for you to feel a sense of peace and comfortability with me as your therapist. By the end of the first session, it is my mission to create a general picture of what you expect to gain from engaging in therapy as well as developing a positive rapport with one another.

What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?

There are a few things that clients should know about me before scheduling a first counseling session. First, I am eager to get the ball rolling with starting your journey. I don't expect you to be anywhere expect for where you are currently in life. Secondly, I also understand the anxiety and fear that comes with beginning therapy. I want you to know that I am here to support you through this process. Finally, I also want clients to know that I can be flexible to meet their needs. There is a solution, and we will explore that together.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

I love to read in my spare time. I have three dogs (2 golden doodles and a golden retriever) that keep me busy. I enjoy hiking and spending time with friends. I have also become an expert documentary watcher due to the popularity of Netflix. I love to travel as well. I am currently working on my doctoral degree in International Psychology, which has given me so many opportunities to explore this amazing world that we live in.

What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

One thing that defines me (outside of being a therapist) is my love for life. I fully enjoy the life that I have been given. I greatly appreciate the experiences that I have had in life, including the not so positive experiences. Each life experience has molded me into who I am today and has helped me to appreciate the life that I have been given.
