About Nancy
Nancy (Nan) Fredrick is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor with 11 years of experience working in the mental health field. Nan’s clients are usually adolescents and adults trying to cope with - or prepare for - life struggles. Nan is passionate about meeting her clients where they are at in their journey, supporting them and gently challenging them to do the best they can do with the resources they have, while encouraging the development of new resources. Nan specializes in working with clients with adjustment issues, trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and grief and loss.
Nan earned her Master’s in Community Counseling from Argosy University in Schaumburg, Illinois. She has been through many transitions herself, including a mid-life career change from the world of manufacturing and supply planning to the world of counseling. Nan has provided services in many different settings including a long-term care facility, community agencies, a prison, and a medical clinic. Nan’s experience coupled with her education makes her a well-rounded clinician. Nan tends to be eclectic in her approach to treatment, depending on the client’s needs, and frequently uses cognitive behavioral (CBT) and dialectical behavioral (DBT) interventions.
Life can be hard. Sometimes we make life difficult through our own actions, and other times we experience difficulties through no fault of our own. Either way, we may need help navigating through those difficulties from a non-judgmental, empathetic source. Nan is confident that she will be able to provide you with the tools you need to navigate life’s up and downs. Are you struggling? Are you ready for help? If so, please call and schedule an appointment with Nan today.

"As John Steinbeck once wrote, “The best-laid plans of mice and men do often go astray; “ please allow me to use my professional experience to help you help yourself to successfully navigate through life’s changes."
Get to know Nancy
Why did you decide to become a counselor?
There is a history of mental health issues in my family and I felt the calling to use my personal experience to help others.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
Clients who are motivated to change.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
That it’s okay not to be okay, that difficult times happen to all of us and they don’t last forever, and just because you may seek help from a professional for your issues does not mean that you’re “crazy.”
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
Thriveworks has the business model where I think I can be the most successful, professionally and personally.
What inspires you?
People who use their adversity to make them better and not bitter.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
I like to refer to the initial session as our meet and greet, a time to get to know each other and start to build rapport. The client can expect to answer questions about their mental health history, their current symptoms and struggles, and their goals for therapy. We will also talk about expectations and general guidelines to help make the therapeutic process as effective as possible.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
To make them feel comfortable and safe enough to want to continue the therapeutic process with me.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
Spending time with family and friends. Thrift store shopping. Volunteering for the children’s ministry at church. Attending concerts, singing, and dancing.
