Get to know Chelsea
Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I like to understand the needs, motivations, actions, and thoughts of people. I believe if you have an understanding of a person, you can connect with anyone.
What types of clients do you work with best?
Clients who understand their needs or are close to understanding and are willing to explore their options to make the necessary changes to improve themselves.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
Couples. I enjoy having both sides to a story and being able to identify the miscommunication/misinterpretation that occur.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
One thing I wish all clients new is that no matter how small they feel an issue is, a small issue can grow bigger if it remains ignored.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I chose to work at Thriveworks due to a need for flexibility and wanting to connect with people of different ethnicities, genders, and life experiences.
What inspires you?
The stories of others. Watching and hearing people figure out what works for them, applying the changes, and being able to acknowledge the changes for themselves.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Clients can expect collaboration
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
Building the foundation for trust with their therapist and identifying a short term goal that can be used as a building block towards their long term goal.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
I like to work from a 70-30 relationship in which the therapist provides 30 percent in terms of support, resources, and skills. The 70 percent is in how the client takes and applies the resources and skills to their daily lives and adapts me as needed.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
Listen to music, trying new restaurants, and escape rooms.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
My determination. No matter how hard things get, I find the motivation and energy to get things done.
