About Makayla
I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) with 8 years of experience supporting individuals as they navigate anxiety, OCD, depression, and relationship and family concerns. I believe the therapeutic relationship is one of the most important factors in meaningful change, and I work collaboratively with clients to clarify their goals and align their values with the life they want to build.
I earned my master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from Northern Arizona University. My work is grounded in a cognitive behavioral framework, with treatment tailored to each individual’s needs. I frequently use exposure and response prevention therapy, particularly when working with clients experiencing anxiety and OCD.
I strive to create a supportive, empowering environment where you feel understood and challenged in healthy ways. Together, we will identify effective strategies to enhance your well-being and strengthen your confidence as you move forward. I look forward to partnering with you on your path toward meaningful and lasting growth.

"As a lifelong Idahoan, I understand the struggle to find mental health care and I returned to my home state to be a provider for those seeking a compassionate and empathetic counselor."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
When I was a freshman in college I had a professor that was a sex therapist. She was an amazing professor and peaked my interest in psychology and counseling. I enrolled in Psych 101 the semester after her course, she pushed me into this career field! Since that fateful time in my life, I have stayed in this career path because I cherish being a part of the journey clients take to better their lives, relationships and themselves.
What types of clients do you work best with?
I work best with clients that actively want to make a change in their lives!
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
Therapy is not an immediate fix, and building resiliency in mental health is a lifelong process. As a therapist, I cannot fix or change anything for you, but will be a guide to help you make those changes in your daily life.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
Our first session will likely focus on building a relationship with one another. I will ask many questions about you, and strive to gain an understanding of what is bringing you into counseling. I welcome questions you may have about me or therapy in general.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
I am very "human" as a counselor, and do not have a "one style fits all" type of approach. With some clients I utilize sarcasm and humor and with others I am more reserved and professional, this will all depend on what you, the client is needing from a counselor. While I lean heavily on cognitive behavioral therapy, it is not always the best fit for everyone and I am aware that certain situations need less thought work compared to others. As your therapist, each session may use a different approach if you require something different day to day.
