Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I came to counseling later in life. I had a broad range of life experiences and thought that would serve me well as a counselor. I enjoy hearing clients tell their stories.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I prefer adults or mature teenagers. Self motivation is a plus in life and counseling is no exception. That said, if you are unclear about your goals, I can help with that, also.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
My favorite client is an older person who has never had any kind of therapy before or had a negative experience with counseling. I find that I can usually change the negative perception at the first session by simply being easy going and non judgmental, with a dash of humor thrown in to the mix.
What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?
I wish all clients understood the power that is within themselves. I like to key into it and use it so that we can work together to achieve your goals. I am successful when you are successful.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
After much investigation and experience, I do believe that Thriveworks is the best at what they offer, in a growing field. The option to take insurance puts them ahead of the others but it is the calibre of the employees, in all of their respective roles, that impresses me the most. They are passionate and care about what they do.
What inspires you?
This sounds corny but I take inspiration every day from simple things all around me. My granddaughter trying something she is nervous about, my client understanding something about themself that is keeping them "stuck", snow, and even the ability to walk the dogs on a beautiful day. It is all around us, every day.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
You can expect a warm, accepting therapist who is eager to hear your reasons for coming to counseling at this time. Later, once I have the basics of the current problem, I do like to explore the life patterns and the roots of the patterns, but only when you are ready,
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I want them to be comfortable with sharing with me and for me to have a good understanding of their current problems.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
I am relatively easy going and easy to talk to. I expect that I will need to earn your trust, I do not have a right to it.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I enjoy family time. I moved to Idaho from Florida to spend more time with my daughter and her family.
What’s one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I am pretty open and engage easily.
