About Willie
I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) with 39 years of experience providing mental health and addiction counseling to children, adolescents, and adults. I specialize in treating depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, adjustment concerns, work- and relationship-related stress, and substance use and behavioral addictions, including gambling, pornography, and video gaming.
I earned my master’s degree in social work from Howard University. My approach to treatment is eclectic and evidence-based, drawing from person-centered therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused brief therapy, and motivational interviewing to support meaningful and lasting change.
I strive to create a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel safe, respected, and understood. I work collaboratively with clients to identify goals, build effective coping skills, and foster healing and recovery. I invite you to take the next step and begin your therapeutic journey with me.

"Drawing from my African American identity and lived experiences, I offer a therapeutic space where your journey is not only understood but genuinely affirmed, allowing us to navigate your path to healing together from a culturally grounded perspective."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I have dealt with many challenges, and I've gotten past these challenges and would like to help others who are struggling with issues get past their challenges. My background has provided me with a profound understanding of systemic barriers and the deep resilience required to navigate challenging issues. I draw from these insights to meet clients where they are, honoring their own unique strengths in the healing process.
What types of clients do you work best with?
I have cultivated extensive experience working with a wide range of individuals from children and adolescents to young and older adults, all from diverse backgrounds. My professional background spans across a variety of treatment settings, which has provided me with a comprehensive understanding of different care environments, including private residences, group homes, residential treatment centers, psychiatric hospitals, long term care facilities, and private clinicals. I am particularly drawn or open to working with clients who hold a belief in the possibility of change and have the capacity to grow and develop in a positive direction.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
One essential thing a client often discovers is that healing is not a linear process; progress often involves setbacks and "feeling worse" which actually be a sigh of grown.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
A client can expect primarily a foundational "getting-to-know-you through the intake process or assessment. Rather than during immediate intensive work, a client should expect the focus to be on building rapport and a therapeutic alliance and gathering practical information needed to create a treatment plan.
What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?
I sometimes use my personal experiences to inform my practice as a mental health therapist. One (1) example, my lived experiences and adversity (e.g., past traumas, grief, and systemic barriers) have deepened my empathy for others. This perspective allows me to "Speak from experiences" rather than "of experiences".
Another example, I used selective self-disclosure (like past losses and other challenges) intentionally to normalize a client feelings and shame.
Another example of how my personal experience can be used as a clinical tool and inform my practice as a mental health therapist, sharing my own struggles and how I moved past such adversity,
provides firsthand knowledge of the "non-linear" nature of healing.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
I prioritize a personalized care approach that begins with a comprehensive assessment of each client's unique challenges and goals. By drawing from a diverse toolkit of evidenced based practices-such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), etc. -I tailor my clinical approach to meet the clients where they are. This collaborative process ensures that treatment is not only clinically sound, but also deeply resonate with the client's personal values and readiness for positive change.
