Get to know Melissa

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

Melissa decided to become a counselor because of her early life experiences. During her childhood years, Melissa's immediate cultural environment lacked awareness of the benefits and deemed it as negative. As a young adult, Melissa tried therapy and was pleased with the outcome. Later, Melissa's work role consisted of interdepartmental collaboration with mental health teams for patient care. Melissa became inspired by that experience and proceeded to become credentialed.

What types of clients do you work with best?

Ages 13 and up with different backgrounds, ethnicities, and races, regardless of gender or gender preference.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

I am most excited to work with adolescents, regardless of gender, and women.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

It is okay to not be okay and seek help getting there.

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

As I looked for an agency to join, I felt a genuine concern from Thriveworks at the start. Work-LIfe-Balance is important to me, and the Thriveworks model is for its counselors to receive the same level of care as their clients.

What inspires you?

I am inspired by possibilities. I am inspired by knowing the only barriers are those I create for myself. I am inspired by having loved ones to share my life with, and to help others achieve their goals.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

Clients can expect to feel safe, heard, and understood without judgment and unconditional positive regard.

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

I want the individual to feel safe expressing their concerns and hopeful about a resolution.

What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?

Clients should know that I go beyond "Talk Therapy" with out-of-office activities to aid in their goal achievement.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

I engage is social activities with family and friends.

What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

My consideration of others.
