Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I became a counselor to help others. Throughout my life I've received help in various ways, whether through counseling or coaching or simple kindness in a time of need. I found counseling as a meaningful way to help others understand themselves, heal, grow, alleviate suffering, and find a place of peace and acceptance.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work well with people who may be new to therapy but they are considering change or recognize a need. If thinking of a range of need or issues, I've helped people experiencing feeling down and/or stressed with a need for warm support all the way to those in severe crisis including but not limited to suicide and self harm, persons with serious mental illness, and people in the worst times of their lives.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I'm excited to help people who want to evolve, grow, and understand themselves. I find helping people with personal growth and fulfillment to be very exciting, and this can take shape in so many different ways.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
It's okay to be new. It's okay to be worried. It's okay to talk. You don't have to go through what you're going through alone.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
Thriveworks is a large and eclectic organization that provides pathways for those seeking help and change. I've been very impressed with their structure and the professionals I've encountered. I'm excited about the opportunities present for helping others.
What inspires you?
I'm inspired by what keeps people living and moving onward. As a counseling and forensic psychology professional, I have encountered so many people who lost sight of living and found their way again. Those journeys are amazing, and I'm privileged to be a part of them.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
When we first meet, I check in and review with you our informed consent, expectations, and I ask you some questions about yourself and what you've been experiencing. I screen and assess with questions, and I ask you about your story and what brought you to counseling. We collaborate on goal development, a schedule, and safety. Most importantly, we begin a journey however brief or long and start to build rapport.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I want to address any questions you have, as well as understand what you seek and need as a client. We develop a baseline and a plan and grow from there in a flexible way that meets your needs.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
I'm pleasant and kind. I will ask you about some things that you may have covered or been asked before with others. However, I work to put aside my assumptions because the less I assume, the more I can be a real help to you.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, and watching a variety of shows.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I'm a family man and proud dad with a sense of humor.
