Get to know Erin

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

Growing up I have always been an observer of people and behaviors. I often wanted to understand why people made the choices they made and what made them who they were. When I was deciding on my field of study I naturally gravitated to Sociology and Anthropology and then into Social Work. I wanted to do something with my life that had purpose.

What types of clients do you work with best?

I work well with all age groups and have experience with them all. I work best with individuals who are motivated and who are active participants in their treatment.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

I love all the populations I work with. However, I have a huge heart for retirement age and aging population and always have. My first job at the age of 12 was in a nursing home where I was an activities assistant and during my graduate program I worked in a Continuum of Care Retirement Community in the dementia unit and really found this work rewarding.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

Fears about therapy and therapists can confound even the most devoted therapy-goer: Relaxing into the process while building a trust-based connection with your counselor is key to getting the most out of your therapy sessions. If you’ve got some nagging insecurities about whether or not your therapist is judging you or just concerns about therapy in general, don’t fret. Good therapists are an altruistic and caring breed, and bottom line, they really just want the best for you.

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

I have worked in a variety of different settings in my career. However, I find working with individuals and families in a private setting is one that give me the most freedom to pull from my diverse skill set and create better outcomes from individuals seeking change.

What inspires you?

I am inspired by both having the ability to plant a seed for change and being able to see that seed bloom into something beautiful. I am inspired to help others realize that even with their cracks and worn places they are still beautiful and worthy as human beings.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

They can expect a very warm, personal and straight forward approach. I always want them to feel that I am here for them and not the other way around. I want them to know that I want the very best for them and will work alongside them to reach their goals.

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

I want to get a whole person view of them and their life in order to obtain needed context from which to work from.

What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?

I look forward to meeting them and helping the reach their goals.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

I love being outside. In my time off I am often found gardening or tending to my honeybees. I love to hike and forage and love to fish and go camping.

What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

My Christianity and being a mom.
