Get to know Anna
Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I was a senior in high school when my father passed away unexpectedly. I ended up having counseling for this. When I went to college my major was Speech Language Pathology, however I found myself not liking it as much as I thought I would. I had been taking psychology classes alongside the SLP track. I ended up changing my major to general psychology and graduating with a B.A in Psychology. I took 4 years off and decided to go back to get my Master's degree. I chose Mental Health Counseling and fell in love with the counseling field.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I tend to work with children and teenagers best. My background is in child centered therapy.
What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?
We as Counselors are not miracle workers. We put in 100% to help the client but the client has to put in the work as well.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I chose to work at Thriveworks for the flexibility. Since March of 2020, I have been doing therapy from home via telehealth and I fell in love with it.
What inspires you?
Seeing clients achieve their treatment plan goals and be able to live a long healthy, happy life outside of therapy.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
During the first session we will be talking a lot about what has happened to bring them to the point of seeking services with Thriveworks.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I like to begin building rapport with the client from the first hello. My goal with the first session is to ease the anxiousness that comes with meeting someone new for the first time.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I like to spend time reading. I also on the weekends will travel to visit with my family in Huntsville AL. I am also a member of the Classic City Band and Athens Creative Theater orchestra. I have been playing the trombone off and on since 6th grade.
What’s one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I am single and independent. I live with my 2 cats who will be a part of the sessions (at least while I am working from home).
