About Zaria
Zaria Myers-Thomas is a Registered Mental Health Counselor with 2 years of experience working in community mental health and telehealth settings. She has worked with clients ages 6-52, including children, adults, teens, couples, and families. Zaria specializes in anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, life transitions, self-esteem, and stress. Zaria’s passion for therapy stems from her understanding of how the mental health stigma in many communities causes many to suffer in silence, leaving them feeling unheard and fearful of seeking the treatment and support they deserve.
Zaria earned her Master’s in Mental Health Counseling from Baruch College. She provides a culturally sensitive approach drawing from cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, person-centered therapy, internal family systems, somatic techniques, and mindfulness practices. Zaria tailors her treatment to address each client’s unique needs.
Zaria is committed to helping clients feel empowered and heard as they reconnect with their inner voice, explore their struggles without shame, and pursue lasting change. She honors the courage to seek support and creates a safe, welcoming space for healing and self-discovery.

"As an Afro-Caribbean woman of color, I support my clients through an intersectional and holistic lens. I honor the connection between mind, body, spirit, and culture while also creating a space where you feel seen, heard, and empowered to explore your identity, race, and women’s issues."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I decided to become a counselor after witnessing how the mental health stigma in many communities like my own, has led many to suffer in silence out of fear of social ostracism, often deterring them from seeking help. I wanted to create a safe, affirming space where people from all walks of life feel welcomed, supported and empowered to share their experiences and receive the care they truly deserve.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with adults and couples who are navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, grief, life transitions, self-esteem or Stress.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I’m especially passionate about supporting clients who are ready to or are interested in exploring their inner world, reconnecting with their voice and grow in a safe, culturally sensitive and nonjudgmental space.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
There is no shame in needing support. Seeking help is not a weakness, but a courageous step toward reclaiming your inner peace, speaking your truth and freeing yourself from the burdens of isolation and societal expectations.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I chose to practice at Thriveworks because of their commitment to provide high quality, accessible and client-centered care. Their values align with my own mission to create a safe, inclusive and affirming space.
What inspires you?
I’m inspired by the transformation I witness in my clients. The way their fear gives way to courage as they show up, do the work and slowly reclaim and reconnect with parts of themselves that may have been lost, silenced or neglected. Witnessing this change in my clients fuels my passion for this work tremendously.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Clients can expect a warm, supportive and nonjudgmental space where we’ll explore what brought them to therapy, discuss their goals and begin to build a trusting relationship. I’ll ask questions to better understand their story, strengths and challenges, while ensuring they feel heard, respected and empowered from the very beginning.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
Before scheduling a session, clients should know that I’m very easygoing and approachable and open-minded. I believe therapy should be a comfortable, safe space where you can explore your challenges or concerns without judgment. I’m passionate about helping you reconnect with your inner voice, empowering you to navigate life’s obstacles, and meeting you exactly where you’re at.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I’m a jack of all trades and love switching between various hobbies and interests. Whether it’s watching shows like Love is Blind, creating DIY projects and sketches, curating music playlists, going on road trips, making picture collages, enjoying a relaxing spa day, or simply resting, I’m always eager to try something new and embrace different forms of creativity and relaxation!
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
One thing that defines me is my creativity! Whether it's finding new ways to solve problems, express myself, or connect with others, I’m always thinking outside the box and bringing imagination into everything I do.
