Get to know Vanessa

Why did you decide to become a counselor?

I've always enjoyed working with others in a helping role, as my early career was in social work. I'm passionate about the therapy process and have witnessed therapy result in meaningful and positive changes for individuals and couples who are willing to invest time and energy into working towards change. I enjoy collaborating and supporting individuals and couples through the process.

What types of clients do you work with best?

I enjoy working with a variety of individuals and couples and like to meet the client where they are rather than deciding which clients are "best." I think everyone is capable of change if they are willing to commit to the process of therapy.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

I wish all clients knew that therapy isn't something to be afraid of, as so many come to the process with uncertainty or fear about what to expect.

What inspires you?

I am always inspired by the capacity we as humans have to overcome pain, adversity and other life barriers and be able to not only overcome but to heal and thrive.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

I focus on making sure the client not only feels comfortable but also feels like they know what to expect moving forward.

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

I would like to increase understanding of what an individual would like to gain out of the process and would also want to make sure I have an understanding of their experience.

What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?

I am collaborative and supportive and believe therapy should be a safe space and that an individual should feel like the therapist is a good fit.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

I love to travel and shop for vintage and antique items. I also love music.
