I'm a licensed clinical social worker and experienced mental health clinician with more than 30 years of experience supporting children, adolescents, adults, and families. I have worked with individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, emotional and behavioral challenges, life transitions, relationship concerns, and performance anxiety. As a former athlete, I understand the pressures that can affect confidence, motivation, and performance. My approach is grounded in empathy, compassion, strength-based and solution-focused interventions that help clients build confidence and overcome barriers.

My approach to therapy is organic, down-to-earth, and centered on meeting each client where they are, without judgment. I use strength-based and solution-focused strategies to help clients develop coping skills and identify practical steps toward change. I also believe in respectfully challenging clients to look beyond what may be holding them back.

Taking the step to seek therapy is a sign of strength, courage, and bravery. You do not have to navigate life's challenges alone. If you're ready to take the next step toward greater understanding, healing, and success, I'm here to support you. Together, we can identify your strengths, work through challenges, and develop effective coping strategies.

"As a former athlete, I understand the importance of working together, meeting people where they are, building trust and rapport through empathy and compassion, and using a strength-based, solution-focused approach to help clients recognize their strengths, overcome challenges, and move toward meaningful change."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

I became a counselor because I genuinely believe that people should not have to navigate life's challenges alone. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families who were dealing with difficult transitions, relationship challenges, anxiety, depression, emotional and behavioral concerns, and moments when they simply felt stuck. Those experiences have shown me that sometimes what a person needs most is someone who will truly listen, meet them where they are, and help them find a way forward. My approach to therapy is very personal and down-to-earth. I don't believe in judging people for where they are or telling them where they should be. I believe in meeting clients where they are, understanding their experiences, and working together to figure out where they want to go from there. Every person has strengths, even when they may not recognize them, and part of my role is helping clients rediscover those strengths. My experience as a former athlete has also had a significant influence on how I approach counseling. Athletics taught me that growth doesn't happen overnight. There are wins, setbacks, unexpected challenges, moments of frustration, and times when you have to dig deeper than you thought you could. It also taught me the importance of accountability, perseverance, resilience, teamwork, and having someone in your corner who believes in you. I bring those lessons into my work with clients—not by treating therapy like a competition, but by helping clients recognize that setbacks do not define them and that progress often comes one step at a time. I believe therapy should be a genuine partnership. Sometimes clients need compassion and a safe place to process what they're experiencing. Sometimes they need practical tools and strategies. And sometimes they need someone who will respectfully challenge them to look at a situation differently, take accountability for what they can control, and make changes that move them closer to the life they want. Ultimately, I became a counselor because I find purpose in helping people realize that their current circumstances do not have to define their future. Whether you're struggling with your emotions, relationships, confidence, life transitions, or simply trying to figure out your next step, my goal is to walk alongside you, help you understand yourself better, recognize your strengths, and develop practical tools to create meaningful change. Reaching out for therapy is not a sign of weakness. It takes courage to acknowledge that something needs to change and to take that first step. You don't have to have everything figured out before you begin. We can start exactly where you are.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?

One thing I wish every client knew about therapy is that healing is a patient process, and you don't have to have everything figured out in the beginning. There will be days when you feel like you're making progress and other days when it may feel like you've taken a step backward. That doesn't mean therapy isn't working. Growth often happens in those moments when we are challenged, uncomfortable, or forced to look at something from a different perspective. Just like I learned as an athlete, progress comes through consistency, patience, resilience, and sometimes getting back up after a setback. You don't have to always win to be moving forward.

What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?

In our first session, my goal is for you to feel comfortable, heard, and understood. I know that reaching out for therapy can feel intimidating, especially if you have never been to therapy before or have had an experience in the past that wasn't a the most pleasant. You don't have to come in knowing exactly what to say or having everything figured out. Our first session is an opportunity for me to learn about you—what you're experiencing, what brought you to therapy, what has been happening in your life, and what you would like to be different. We'll talk about your concerns, your strengths, your relationships, and the things that may be getting in the way of you feeling like yourself. I also believe that a strong therapeutic relationship matters. I want you to feel that you can be honest with me—even when the truth is uncomfortable. I will listen without judgment, offer compassion and support, and respectfully challenge you when I believe it can help you grow. Therapy is a partnership.

How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?

I believe therapy should fit the person—not the other way around. Every client comes into therapy with a different history, personality, set of experiences, strengths, challenges, and goals. My first priority is getting to know you as a person and understanding what you need, rather than making assumptions based on a diagnosis or a particular problem. I tailor therapy by meeting clients where they are and focusing on what is most important to them. Some clients may need a safe place to process their emotions and feel heard. Others may want practical tools to manage anxiety, depression, stress, relationships, communication, boundaries, or major life transitions. Sometimes clients need both. I draw from different therapeutic approaches and interventions, including strength-based, solution-focused, cognitivebehavioral, and other evidencebased strategies, depending on the client's needs. I may help you challenge negative thought patterns, develop healthier coping skills, improve communication, establish boundaries, regulate emotions, or look at situations from a different perspective. I also recognize that what works for one person may not work for another, so I continually assess what is helpful and adjust our approach as therapy progresses. My style is genuine, conversational, and collaborative. I want clients to feel comfortable being themselves while also knowing that I will respectfully challenge them when it can help them grow. I don't believe in simply telling clients what they should do. Instead, I help them develop the insight and tools to make decisions that are right for them.
