About Emmily
I am a registered mental health counselor intern (RMHCI) with 8 years of experience in the mental health field. I specialize in working with children, adults, and couples navigating trauma, substance use concerns, and relationship challenges. My approach centers on creating a safe, supportive space where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered to move toward meaningful and lasting change.
I earned my master’s degree in mental health counseling from South University. My clinical approach is holistic and individualized, incorporating cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to support personal growth and the Gottman Method to help couples strengthen communication, connection, and emotional understanding.
Reaching out for support can feel overwhelming, but you do not have to navigate life’s challenges alone. I work collaboratively with clients to develop personalized strategies for healing, resilience, and growth. I would be honored to walk alongside you as you take this important step forward.

"When we connect with our whole selves, we unlock the door to profound healing and transformation. Embrace the journey with an open heart."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
As a military veteran, I witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by soldiers returning from deployment, particularly those who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Many struggled with PTSD, leading to marital issues, difficulties reintegrating into family life, and, unfortunately, increased rates of divorce and domestic violence.Seeing the lack of mental health support for these brave individuals motivated me to become a counselor. I wanted to provide a safe space where veterans and their families could find healing and balance. My goal is to help clients break the cycle of mental health issues and empower them to rebuild their lives and relationships.
What types of clients do you work best with?
I work best with a diverse range of clients, including military veterans, individuals facing trauma, those struggling with substance abuse, and couples navigating relationship challenges. My holistic approach allows me to connect with people from all walks of life, providing tailored support that meets their unique needs. I’m committed to fostering a safe and empathetic environment for everyone seeking growth and healing.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
One thing I wish all clients knew is that there’s absolutely nothing wrong with seeking therapy. It’s a brave and proactive step toward understanding yourself better and addressing challenges in your life. Therapy is a safe space for growth, healing, and discovering new ways to navigate life's difficulties. Everyone deserves support, and reaching out is a sign of strength, not weakness.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
In their first session, clients can expect to build a genuine connection and rapport with me. I prioritize creating a comfortable and safe environment where you can openly share your thoughts and vulnerabilities. My goal is to foster understanding and trust, allowing you to express your feelings without judgment. Together, we’ll explore your concerns, set goals, and begin the journey toward healing and growth.
What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?
My personal experiences as a military veteran and the challenges I’ve witnessed especially regarding reintegration and the impact of divorce profoundly inform my practice as a therapist. I’ve seen how trauma and mental health issues can strain relationships and lead to significant life changes, including divorce. This background instills in me a deep sense of empathy and commitment to supporting clients through their struggles.I value authenticity, compassion, and resilience, believing that everyone has the capacity for growth and healing. These principles guide my approach, ensuring that I provide a safe, respectful, and empowering space for clients to explore their challenges and aspirations, including navigating the complexities of divorce and rebuilding their lives.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
I tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs by first taking the time to understand their individual backgrounds, experiences, and goals. I utilize a client-centered approach, actively listening to their concerns and adapting my techniques accordingly. I begin with a thorough assessment to identify specific issues and strengths. Depending on the client’s preferences and challenges, I incorporate various therapeutic modalities, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, or trauma-informed care. Together, we set personalized goals that reflect their values and aspirations, ensuring that the therapy process feels relevant and meaningful. I also encourage open communication and regularly seek feedback to adjust our approach as needed, fostering a dynamic and responsive therapeutic relationship. This individualized focus helps create a supportive environment where clients feel understood and empowered on their journey to healing
