About David

My name is David J. DeJesus, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Florida. My work is grounded primarily in Bowen Family Systems Theory and psychodynamic thinking, with attention to how family history, relationships, and early experiences shape present-day patterns. I work with individuals and families navigating complex family dynamics, early recovery, anxiety, emotional regulation, internal conflict, and intergenerational patterns. I also integrate cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapy-informed tools to support insight, coping skills, and intentional change.

My approach is collaborative, reflective, and grounded in curiosity. I help clients better understand patterns in their relationships, family history, emotional reactions, and learned roles. Clients can expect a thoughtful, honest space that supports insight, coping skills, emotional regulation, and intentional change.

Starting therapy can be a meaningful step toward understanding yourself and your relationships more clearly. My hope is to offer a space where you feel respected, supported, and encouraged as you work toward growth, healing, and more intentional change. I would be honored to support you in that process.

Get to know David

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

I decided to become a therapist because I have always been interested in understanding people in the context of their relationships, families, and life experiences. Over time, I became drawn to the idea that healing often begins when people can better understand the patterns that shaped them and begin making more intentional choices for themselves.

What types of clients do you work best with?

I work best with clients who are curious about themselves and open to exploring how their relationships, family history, and past experiences may influence their present patterns. I often work with individuals and families navigating anxiety, emotional regulation, early recovery, family conflict, life transitions, and internal conflict.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?

I wish clients knew that therapy is not about finding something “wrong” with them. It is often about slowing down, becoming more curious about their patterns, and understanding how their relationships and life experiences have shaped the way they respond to the world.

What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?

In the first session, clients can expect a thoughtful and collaborative conversation focused on getting to know them, their concerns, and what led them to therapy. In the early stages of therapy, I work to better understand the client’s relationships, family history, current patterns, and goals for treatment while creating a space that feels respectful, honest, and supportive.

What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?

One value that strongly informs my work is the importance of defining one’s own self while remaining connected to others. I believe many people are shaped by complex family, cultural, and relational systems, and therapy can help create space to better understand those influences. My hope is to support clients in developing greater clarity, emotional steadiness, and a stronger sense of self within the important relationships in their lives.

How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?

I tailor therapy by getting to know each client’s history, relationships, goals, strengths, and current challenges. While my work is grounded in family systems and psychodynamic thinking, I recognize that each person needs something different. Some clients benefit from deeper reflection and insight, while others need more concrete tools for coping, communication, emotional regulation, or decisionmaking.
