Get to know Ashley

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

I have always had an interest in understanding how the human mind works. However, I decided to become a counselor because of the positive impact that my own therapist had on my growth. I wanted to be a part of that transformation in other people’s lives!

What types of clients do you work with best?

I work best with clients who are motivated and committed to continue the work outside of the four walls of counseling.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

I am most excited to work with clients who have clear goals in mind for their life ahead. I also am excited to work with clients who enjoy expressing themselves through art.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

I wish all clients knew that they are already making a big step by seeking out help and that is worth celebrating!

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

I chose to work at Thriveworks because of their commitment to caring for their clinicians as we care for our clients. As much as I encourage my clients to care for themselves, I want my life to reflect that as well.

What inspires you?

Seeing people persevere through life’s challenges and remain kind to others inspires me so much. It’s an honor to walk through life’s challenges alongside my clients.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

Clients can expect some probing questions so that I can get a full view of all the areas of their life. This will help me to better understand their circumstances so that I can help them work through their primary problem. In addition to that, they can expect some conversation that helps us to get to know each other and be sure that we are a good fit!

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

Within the first session my goal is to understand the primary complaint that the client has. Also, I want to learn about the client’s interests and things that make them unique as a means to build rapport.

What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?

Clients should know that I am a Christian woman of color that will challenge them to take action to change their circumstances. If that sounds like a good fit, please reach out and schedule!

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

I really enjoy roller skating and traveling with my loved ones! I’m also a foodie and love to try new restaurants. If you have any recommendations please tell me!

What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

The main thing that defines me is my faith. It is my driving force and what guides me in all things.
