About Ashleigh
Ashleigh Mack is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She has experience treating couples, families, and individuals with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, grief, trauma, spiritual abuse, pregnancy, postpartum, life transitions, relationships, and behavioral concerns. Ashleigh earned her Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy at the University of Capella. As a child of teen pregnancy, events in her life as well as her education have given her an understanding of various backgrounds. She knows what it is to come from nothing and, at times, feel like nothing.
Ashleigh gravitates toward a more systemic approach and utilizes different methods and models that are client-centered, such as intergenerational family therapy, solution-focused therapy, narrative therapy, mindfulness, and cognitive behavioral therapy.
Life can be all over the place and messy. Sometimes we just need someone to be our soundboard and help us dissect our stuff. Ashleigh would like to provide that space for you, giving you room to discover the deeper parts of your journey and tools to utilize when discovery becomes overwhelming. If you are ready, schedule an appointment with her today!

"As a person who has made it to the other side of traumatic life events, I understand the different emotions that come from feeling overwhelmed, angry, and alone."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
Life experience. Being the product of two teenager's curiousity and living through childhood traumas/spiritual abuse led me on the path of wanting to help others. I just knew how much the pain of betrayal, rejection, and abuse affected me and knew that going through all of it wasn't for nothing, that I had to use those experiences to help others who are in similar places.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I can work well with anyone but I do enjoy working with young adults because most young adults are still figuring out their lives and their childhoods. I feel like I can easily connect with them especially when they want to put in the work.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I'm excited to work with families and couples.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
How to stay out of your own head sometimes. Our thoughts dictate everything we see and a lot of us were taught/enabled to focus on the negative. We're only limited because we put ourselves in the box.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
As a full-time mom Thriveworks offers me the flexibility I need to be available to my kids as well as get the wonderful experience of working with clients. They also have supportive staff that believe in self-care. You can't beat that!
What inspires you?
My faith and family. I would not have made it this far in life without either.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
My go to choice in therapy is narrative and intergenerational. In your first session, we'll explore what brought you in and what narrative you are currently in. General themes may include looking at family history and childhood trauma. This helps me understand your background a bit more and how I can best serve you.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
During the first session the main thing I hope to accomplish is building rapport. We're not going to uncover everything in your first session. Hopefully we'll have an idea of what goals you would like to set and how we can help you accomplish them. Therapy is a marathon and it'll take time and dedication to get you to where you want to be.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
I like to utilize experiential interventions. There may be times where I will ask you to be creative either by drawing or writing, I may also ask you to participate in personality quizzes. The goal is to get you comfortable with yourself and maybe uncover parts that you didn't know existed. I am warm but I'm also honest.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
When I'm off the clock I enjoy spending time outside. I love doing yard work or reading out in the sunshine.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
My tenacity, once I am focused on something I will see it through to the end.
Can you tell us about a success you had with a client?
I had a couple client who were struggling with communication in their relationship. I would often have them draw during sessions to describe their feelings towards one another. This worked very well for both of them. This allowed growth to form in the relationship via understanding.
