About Julia
Julia Girardin is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a primary background in medical healthcare. She provides support for individuals struggling with anxiety and depression, grief/bereavement, chronic illness, life transition, addiction/substance abuse, and an array of other issues. Her ideal client is looking for a space to explore a deeper understanding of him or herself as well as willing to put in the work.
Julia received her Master of Social Work from SUNY Albany. She is an old soul who is also young at heart — as a result, she connects with what seems like all ages and lets her clients direct the conversation. Together, Julia and her clients work to make a plan and see it through. She will connect with you on a basic, human level and create a personalized treatment plan that meets your needs.

"I am simply looking to connect on a basic human level."

Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I want to provide a safe and open space for others to explore themselves.
What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?
Growth is messy. It is not linear. Some sessions you will laugh and in others you may cry. Whatever you do will be right for that moment.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I wanted to be a part of something great. I wanted to work with a supportive team that would welcome me and help me feel like I am contributing to something great in return.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Expect a lot of questions. While I will leave a lot of space for you to share everything and anything you wish to explore, if you do not speak up I will inquire plenty.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
In a first session I simply want to establish expectations, both yours and mine. This way we can ensure I am a good fit for you.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I love to read! I am a bit of a book nerd.
