Hello, my name is Karla and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I have a professional background experience working in Child Protection Therapy, Grief and Loss, Depression, Anxiety, Trauma, Substance Use Disorders, and Crisis. I have worked with individuals both adults and adolescents who may be experiencing challenges and disruptions in their lives and life roles due to various causes and helping them build skills to help in day to day life and responsibilities. My goal is to listen, help support, and help to build coping skills and strategies for the individual to live the fullest life possible.
I utilize empathic listening to help first understand the primary issue an individual may be experiencing. Through a Person Centered approach my goal is to help individuals recognize their own skills, strengths, and abilities they bring to the therapeutic setting to help promote self understanding, personal growth and healing.
Life can bring painful experiences and can really put you down. Making the decision to come to therapy can be frightening, uncertain, and can provoke further angst and reservation. I am here to encourage you to take the first step in your healing process and will do my best to help support you and help you along your life journey.

"As a mental health professional, I understand some of the challenges life can bring and strive to listen and support individuals build skills to help continue to move forward through these experiences and help you find their empowerment again."
Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I decided to become a counselor to help provide emotional help and support to others.
What types of clients do you work best with?
Adults.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
Therapy is not meant to tell you what to do or give advice, but rather have a safe space to talk/ discuss issues and receive support help in further understanding how to deal with life issues and recognize your own strengths, abilities, and power in your life and situations.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
Early stages will be me getting to know you and determining what you would like to work on in therapy and help identify what goals you have for yourself during your time in therapy services.
What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?
I value the qualities and skills of each individual being unique and having their own life experiences.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
Meeting the client where they are, providing a safe space for each session where each clue feels heard. Regularly checking in with the client on how they feel therapy is going and helping the individual have a voice and power in their care and treatment.
