Get to know Sara

Why did you decide to become a counselor?

I became a Psychotherapist/Counselor for several reasons, mainly because I perceived the need for mental health services and available mental health providers throughout our country, when it is needed the most.

What types of clients do you work with best?

Clients that are aware of their mental health symptoms and wants to feel better as well as manage and/or decrease the symptoms. And, who want to do the work to achieve their mental health goals.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

Clients that are excited and motivated to challenge themselves and address their concerns and issues by being honest with themselves and me!

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

That they should be honest, transparent and have self-respect for themselves when starting their therapeutic journey. Clients should also know that reciprocity in the client/therapist relationship is necessary for emotional growth.

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

The customer/client support offered and the assistance in building my practice and offering quality mental health services.

What inspires you?

Knowing that I am able to provide guidance and insight to help alleviate emotional frustration and pain is inspiring! It means I made a difference in someone's life and they are better emotionally and mentally.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

That the first session is essentially a "getting to know you" and information gathering session with the emphasis on their needs and how to achieve their mental health goals. Being comfortable and at ease with the provider is important and paramount to being a "good fit" for both the client and the provider. My aim would be to have that happen.

What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?

First, that I appreciate their willingness to involve me in their therapeutic journey and that I will utilize my knowledge and professional know how to help achieve their mental health goal. Second and last thing to know about me is that I am passionate about helping others find their inner peace and well-being.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

Doing different and new things! I recently started a Tai-Chi class that I've not been able to continue because of time constraints. I love to read, listen to music and play around with plants (repotting, etc.) and cooking! When possible I love going to museums.

What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

That I am a straight-forward no nonsense type of person with a big, soft heart!
