About Charles

I am a licensed therapist with more than 20 years of experience, I help young adults, adults, couples, and families address addiction, cooccurring disorders, trauma, mood and personality disorders, and LGBTQ+ concerns. Together, we can identify harmful patterns, build healthier coping skills, and create meaningful, lasting change.

I integrate CBT, Motivational Interviewing, DBT, and trauma-focused therapy to help clients address current challenges and develop practical solutions. I am also trained in the Gottman Method for couples therapy. With over 20 years of experience, I support individuals, couples, and families navigating addiction, mental health concerns, and recovery.

My approach is direct and solution-focused, helping you address challenges, move forward, and create greater balance and well-being. As a gay man with more than 30 years in recovery, I bring personal insight, understanding, and authenticity to my work. I am committed to supporting you as you pursue meaningful, lasting change.

Get to know Charles

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

I was newly sober and wanted to give back to my community.

What types of clients do you work best with?

Adults and seniors.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?

One thing I wish all clients knew is that healing is rarely linear. Progress may include setbacks, difficult emotions, and periods when change feels slow or invisible. These moments do not mean therapy is failing; they are often a meaningful part of the process. Therapy is not about becoming a different person - it is about developing greater self-understanding, building healthier ways of coping, and creating a life that feels more authentic and manageable.

What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?

In the first session, clients can expect a warm, collaborative, and judgment-free space where we begin getting to know one another. We will discuss what brought you to therapy, what you hope to gain from the process, and any questions or concerns you may have. In the early stages, we will work together to identify patterns, clarify goals, and develop an approach tailored to your needs. There is no pressure to share everything at once - trust and meaningful progress develop at a pace that feels safe and comfortable for you.

What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?

My practice is grounded in the values of empathy, authenticity, curiosity, and respect for each person’s lived experience. I believe healing happens within a safe, trusting relationship where clients feel genuinely heard and accepted. I also recognize that each person’s story is shaped by their culture, relationships, identities, and environment. Rather than assuming there is one “right” path, I work collaboratively with clients, honoring their strengths and supporting them in creating meaningful, sustainable change.

How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?

I tailor therapy by taking the time to understand each client’s experiences, strengths, goals, culture, and preferences. Rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach, I draw from evidence-based methods and adapt our work as your needs evolve. We will regularly check in about what feels helpful, adjust what is not working, and move at a pace that feels both supportive and productive. Therapy is a collaborative process, and your voice remains central throughout.
