Why did you decide to become a counselor?
Ever since my teenage years, I had a clear aspiration to become a counselor, but it was during my senior year of high school, marked by the loss of my father and experiencing abuse, that I faced significant challenges. Recognizing my struggles, my mother sought help for me through counseling, and while I used to believe the counselor had saved my life, her impact went beyond that – she provided unwavering support, empowering me until I could find strength within myself. Through her guidance, I developed resilience and transformed into a survivor, experiencing firsthand the transformative power of therapy. This profound experience instilled in me a strong desire to give back, to aid others in their growth and healing journey.
What types of clients do you work with best?
While I work well with a diverse set of clients, I generally work best with clients who are in their 20s and 30s.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I eagerly look forward to collaborating with clients who are driven to take responsibility for their lives and proactively embrace meaningful actions to create positive, enduring change.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
One thing all clients should know is that it's okay to be open, honest, and vulnerable during the therapeutic process, as genuine self-expression is crucial for progress and healing. Okay, I'm going to give you 2 things all clients should know. The 2nd thing all clients should is that therapists aren't all knowing or psychic. It is perfectly fine to let your therapists know if they are wrong about something. We welcome it, because it helps us understand you better.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I chose Thriveworks because of their commitment to make therapy accessible to more people, while still maintaining quality services.
What inspires you?
My daughter is a tremendous source of inspiration to me. Witnessing her unfaltering kindness and compassion towards others is remarkable, but what truly leaves me in awe is her resilience in challenging situations and her unyielding determination to assert herself when advocating for her beliefs.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Our first session will be different from the rest. I will ask a lot of questions during the intake process. This is to help me get to know you better and conceptualize what brings you to therapy. By the end of the first therapy session, together we will establish what goals you want to work towards.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
The first session will differ from the rest as it involves an in-depth intake process with numerous questions. This approach allows me to gain a deeper understanding of you and the reasons behind seeking therapy. By the end of this first session, we will collaboratively set goals for the therapeutic journey based on your aspirations.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
I believe in a client's right to self-determination. This is your journey and you're the captain, I am here to help you along the way.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I love to garden, play with my pets, and hangout with my family. Really I love just about anything that gets me outdoors.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
At my core, one defining aspect of my character is the high regard I hold for kindness. In every situation, I make a conscious effort to treat others with kindness and respect, irrespective of their conduct towards me. The power to choose my response in any circumstance lies within me, and I wholeheartedly opt for kindness as my guiding principle.
