About Provider

About Johnae

I am a licensed professional counselor with over six years of experience in behavioral and mental health counseling. I am dedicated to helping individuals navigate life's challenges with compassion and evidence-based care. My approach is client-centered and collaborative. I strive to create a safe, supportive environment where clients feel heard and empowered. I work with adolescents and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, life transitions, self-esteem concerns, relationship challenges, grief, and difficulties with emotional regulation.

I draw from approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, and strengths-based techniques to help clients develop healthy coping skills and build resilience. I have a special interest in helping clients process trauma and how childhood experiences can shape thoughts, emotions, and behaviors into adulthood.

If you're carrying pain from past experiences, feeling stuck, or simply trying to understand yourself better, you don't have to go through it alone. Healing is possible, and it often begins with being heard. If you feel ready, I invite you to take the next step toward change and begin your journey toward healing and growth.

"I don’t believe our struggles or shortcomings define us — they shape us. My work is informed by professional training and enriched by my own experiences with trauma, loss, and healing, allowing me to offer a space where clients feel genuinely seen, understood, and empowered to create meaningful change while recognizing their resilience, strengths, and capacity for growth. Get to know Johnae

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

I decided to become a counselor because I want to help people navigate challenges, build resilience, and make meaningful changes in their lives. I'm drawn to creating a space where people feel heard and supported, and I value the opportunity to combine empathy with practical, evidence-based approaches to help others reach their goals.

What types of clients do you work best with?

I work best with clients who are motivated to explore their challenges and are open to the counseling process, even if they're unsure where to begin. I enjoy working with individuals experiencing anxiety, stress, life transitions, relationship concerns, or self-esteem issues because I value helping people develop practical coping skills and greater self-awareness.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?

I wish all clients knew that asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness. Therapy is a collaborative process built on trust, honesty, and patience. Change takes time, but even small, consistent steps can lead to meaningful and lasting growth.

What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?

In the first session, clients can expect a welcoming, nonjudgmental space where we discuss what brought them to therapy, review confidentiality, and begin identifying their goals. In the early stages of therapy, we'll build trust, develop a treatment plan together, and use evidence-based strategies tailored to their unique needs while regularly checking in on their progress.

What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?

My approach to therapy is guided by values of autonomy, resilience, empathy, faith, perseverance, and wholeness. I believe clients are the experts on their own lives, and my role is to support them as they build on their strengths and work toward meaningful change. I strive to create a compassionate, nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard and respected. I also value a holistic approach that considers emotional, mental, and, when appropriate and aligned with the client's preferences, spiritual well-being. These values shape how I build therapeutic relationships and empower clients throughout the healing process.

How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?

I recognize that every client is unique, and building a trusting therapeutic relationship is the foundation of effective counseling. I begin by conducting a thorough assessment and collaborating with the client to establish goals that are meaningful to them. I consider factors such as their cultural background, values, developmental stage, support system, and personal preferences when selecting interventions. Throughout the counseling process, I regularly check in on their progress, invite feedback about what's working and what isn't, and adjust the treatment plan as needed. I strive to use evidence-based practices while remaining flexible and clientcentered, ensuring that therapy respects each client's individuality and promotes their personal goals.
