I’m Angela Foster, LPC, a Licensed Professional Counselor and Alabama native, based in Montgomery. A graduate of Alabama State University, I earned my Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in May 2022 after receiving my Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice in April 2016. Before counseling, I dedicated nine years to law enforcement, serving with several agencies including the Alabama Department of Corrections and the Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles. I later served as a Deputy Marshal and was the first female Deputy Marshal of the Supreme Court of Alabama, a milestone in breaking barriers.
Today, I combine my experience in public safety with my clinical expertise. I’ve worked with children, adolescents, and adults in settings including correctional behavioral health, substance use, crisis intervention, and community mental health. My approach integrates CBT, person-centered therapy, solution-focused interventions, and trauma-informed care.
You don’t have to navigate life’s challenges alone. Wherever you are in your journey, I’m here to meet you with compassion, understanding, and without judgment. Together, we can create a safe space to heal, grow, and move forward. When you’re ready, I invite you to schedule an appointment. Your journey matters, and you deserve support along the way.

"Healing begins when courage meets compassion, and every journey forward starts with a single step."
Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I became a counselor because I believe people deserve to be heard, understood, and supported through life’s most difficult moments. My experiences working in criminal justice and behavioral health showed me how deeply mental health can impact individuals, families, and communities. I chose counseling so I could help people recognize their strengths, navigate challenges, heal from difficult experiences, and create meaningful change in their lives.
What types of clients do you work best with?
I work best with adolescents, adults, and families who are navigating anxiety, depression, grief, addiction, anger, life transitions, or the challenges of starting over. I especially enjoy supporting individuals who may feel misunderstood or overwhelmed and are ready to gain insight, build healthier coping skills, and create meaningful change in their lives.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
I wish every client knew that healing is not a straight line, and asking for help is not a sign of weakness. Therapy is a safe space to be honest, grow at your own pace, and work through what may feel difficult or overwhelming. You don’t have to have everything figured out before you begin. Sometimes, taking the first step is the beginning of meaningful change.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
In our first session, you can expect a warm, welcoming, and judgment-free space where we’ll get to know each other, discuss what brought you to therapy, and identify your goals. In the early stages, we’ll work together to understand your needs, build trust, develop practical coping strategies, and create a personalized path toward healing and growth. You set the pace—we’ll take it one step at a time.
What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?
My experiences in criminal justice and behavioral health have taught me the importance of compassion, advocacy, and meeting people where they are. I believe every person has strengths, even when they may not see them in themselves. My practice is grounded in empathy, respect, authenticity, and the belief that meaningful healing begins when people feel heard, valued, and safe enough to be themselves.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
I believe therapy should be as unique as the person receiving it. I take time to understand each client’s experiences, strengths, goals, culture, and individual needs. From there, I use evidence-based approaches and practical strategies that fit their situation and comfort level. Therapy is collaborative, and we’ll adjust our approach as you grow, heal, and move toward the life you want.
